Does anyone else have a cold that won't go away?

I'm still dealing with feeling less than my usual happy self and I'm on, like, Day 15. It started with a sore throat that went away in a day, then the usual cold symptoms followed by a slight queeziness in my tummy at which point I'd suddenly feeling really hot up the back of my neck... All that's gone now but, after all this time, I still have a head full of STUFF that won't break lose and still don't FEEL 100%. A bunch of people at work are saying the same thing. I just wish This Thing would leave my body.

I'm going in for surgery on my deviated septum on October 10 and can't take anything but Tylenol until October 20th!

Yeah, sore throat, headache, earache, a cough that just won't quit, and the sniffles. I feel like crap. :(

A Hot Port Toddy at night before going to bed makes me all warm and happy, though. :D

Me to! Me to! Dang it. I got this really sore throat 2 days ago and now I just feel pretty yucky. Do you gals work out when your sick like this? I'm kinda of a momentum person with excersize and diet. I'm extremely diligent and responsible while I'm on it and will rarely miss a workout, my husband calls me "Old Faithful" but I don't have the energy. Well, hope everyone feels better soon. Get some movies, and some green tea and put your feet up with a nice warm blanket on, . . I know I am.

Sparrow, how are your lyme disease symptoms, ick to have to add on cold symptoms too. I hope that the medication is working for you. Get better soon.

No - but everyone around me does so I am just waiting . . .

Sparrow - Lyme????????????????????????????????????????????

Our 19 month old has been sick. She has also been teething too so when her fever didn't go away after 2 days I called doc and she went in. They put her on a nebulizer (sp) for one treatment to break stuff up in her chest which it did. Two days later her fever was still here. Went back to doctor and they did a chest x-ray and she has pneumonia!! We were shocked. She is on an antibiotic and is getting better.

Moral of the story...if you aren't feeling better go to the doctor apparently it is going around. Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

Thanks Janie! I am actually feeling much better, despite the lingering cold. I have just gone off the meds, and now I'm just waiting to see if they kicked it out for good. :)

As for working out, it really depends on the intensity of the cold. I worked out throughout this one, because I'd been off for ages with the Lyme, but probably shouldn't have!

Sparrow,
Not to pry but do you have Lyme disease? If so, I have like a million other questions, I take it you found the tick bite quickly to find treatment, right? Will you ever fully recover? I am so paranoid about that, I had a major tick infestation this spring (gross I know) I switched the flea/tick meds for the dogs so I'm hoping next year isn't as bad. I didn't even want to go on my daily walks with them it was so bad.

As for colds, if there is one going around I catch it, I try to strengthen my immune system with oil of oregano, vit c. and some other remedies but they only work if I remember to take them :) Does anybody know of any other good immunity boosters.

You're not prying, please feel free to ask anything you want :) I don't know how long I had it before the symptoms kicked in, though my doc thinks we caught it relatively early. I started with minor aches on a Sunday and went downhill fast; by Monday week I was having trouble putting one foot in front of the other. My initial blood test said I didn't have it (a clue that it was an early catch) but my doc was convinced that I did. He did the body search and found the bite right between my shoulder blades! I'm hopeful that I am fully recovered, though only time will tell!

The good news is that the antibiotics works wonders. I started to feel significantly better within 24 hours of taking them!

YES...OMG....seriously...Kleenex is making their millions off my runny nose!! No headache, no sore throat (anymore), feel great! But just call me Rudolph...............

I read online about putting Hyrdogen Peroxide in your ears. That seemed to help, a few drops in one ear at a time, let it sit until it stops bubbling, at least 5 minutes, let it drain then do the other one.

If it doesn't help, at least your ears are clean! :p

I've also gargled with Hydrogen Peroxide (it's gross, don't swallow it).

I did all this the last time I had a cold, and it really seemed to shorten the duration.

Ever since, every morning I soak a qtip in hydrogen peroxide, and swab each ear with it. I have not had a cold for at least 1.5 years. My whole life, I used to get at least 2 colds/year.

I also really like airborne.

And I am too busy to drink a gallon of water and sit on the toliet until Monday. Sorry to sound gross. When a cold lingers I try and take a laxative, I know that sounds equally gross, but it clears the rest of the junk out.

I usually gargle with peroxide to keep my teeth from turning a scary shade from all the tea I drink. Also, I got in the habit of microwaving my toothbrush for 5 minutes in a cup of water with a drop of bleach to keep from re-infecting myself every time I bushed. Still, this bug is really bringing me down.

Ugh - I FEEL a cold coming on, but I, too, can't take anything for it as my shoulder surgery is Oct. 10th as well! Went to the store yesterday to get some Airborne, as that usually nips it in the bud for me if I catch the cold early enough - then thought twice about it cuz I noticed there was vitamin E in it and they specifically said stop taking my multi-vitamin a week before surgery especially cuz Vitamin E causes blood thinning or something like that... so it's going to be REST REST REST for me this weekend to stop this before it really starts (hopefully).

SirenSongWoman - good luck with your surgery ...

Yeah, I throw out my toothbrushes too, when I get sick I throw out the existing one, start a new one, I will soak the new one in listerine with peroxide, then as I'm getting better throw that one out and stat a new one. It costs a few bucks but seems worth it.

Try out the peroxide in your ears, it might help.

Our 6.5 month old is also sick!! She had a cold for about a week that developed into a fever and a nasty cough with wheezing. Yesterday we got a nebulizer that we're supposed to use every 4-6 hours, plus an anti-biotic, plus infant Tylenol. The doc said it's Bronchiolitis and it's going around the daycares. I hope it can't turn into pneumonia!
