Does anybody grow sprouts?

Hi all,

Do any of you grow and eat sprouts? I started doing this a few months ago and still learning but really enjoying it. They are high in nutrition, low in calories.

Some of myf avorite tiny seeds are alfalfa, clover, cress, broccoli.

For beans I like mung, adzuki, lentils.

Next, I want to try micro greens or tiny young greens of broccoli, sunflowers etc.
It will be nice to see somthing green and growing during the long winter ahead.

Thanks for the reminder! I love sprouts, too. I'll grow them for a while but then I get tired of babysitting them. It's been too long, plus I have a new house with much more counter space. I think it's time to give it another go.

Cindy,

I love growing sprouts and use them always in my meals. I'll have to look up micro greens. It sounds interesting.

Yuck, LauraMax! I only say that cause I too sprout growths. YUCK! ICKY, ICKY! Have to tie string around them and choke the life right out of em.

I would LOVE to, . . they get expensive here at Whole Foods but I love them in my sandwhiches with tuna. Is it easy to grow? For a while they were not available in California because of an ecoli scare.

Hi,

They are easy to grow but do require some care like rinsing and draining them well. They are worth it though. There is a web site called Sprout People that has a lot of info on this or you could search for sprouts and see what you find. It is best to start out small.

I have in the past, and I should this winter (it's nice to have really fresh, home-grown "greens" in the winter).

I like alfalfa, a mix with alfalfa/clover/radish, and broccoli.

I've also sprouted garbanzo beans and made raw hummus with it, and sprouted wheat and made bread with it (just ground up the sprouts, formed into a loaf, and baked at a low temp).

I also used to germinate raw nuts (they don't sprout, but the germination process reduces anti-nutrients and makes them more digestible, and also increases some of the nutrients the way sprouting does).

Hmmm....I should really get back into doing this! Especially the nuts, which are easy to do.

I once saw a kit at whole foods for growing your own sprouts. It was a few years ago; I don't know if they still carry it.

TeTe...I am LOL at some of your posts!
