I know most video fitness instructors tell you to watch the video before attempting it, maybe even watch it a few times. Not me...I tried their way once or twice, and found it incredibly boring, and jumped in after a while.
What I will do, however, is go through the video at a much slower pace the first few go-arounds, and usually have a pen and paper with me, and jot done potential areas of the video that will be trouble spots for me, techniques maybe I've never seen before, or just know from experience that it'll take me longer to get the hang of a particular segment...yet another reason I enjoy home workouts..I don't think too many live classes would allow for me to go up to the instructor and say.."could you go over that move about 5 more times"?...;-)
