Do you tip lawn people?

I have a weekly lawn service. Is it customary to tip them for year end? I live in CA, I mention this because I know there is a different tipping culture on the west vs. the east coast.

Thanks for any opinions.
 
I am the lawn people. :) Except we have rocks here in the Southwest. :)If they do a good job, I think it would be a lovely thing to do.

Wow! I never gave it a thought. I've had the same lawn person for years and I've never given him a tip. He doesn't have a crew--he does the work himself--and his rates are the same as any company. He sends me a bill at the end of the month and I just pay it. I've never considered adding on a tip. I'll ask around and see if any of my friends tip.

We are getting ready to put grass in half the back yard. I am planning to manage it myself. As far as the tipping, I would if it was just the one guy doing all the work. I am trying to find someone to lay about 600 square feet of concrete down. I had a contractor that I was getting ready to call and give the okay to until I pulled him up on the internet as having 4 judgments against him in the last 2 years. In one of them he broke her property and was trying to fight paying for it and the other 2 he didn't want to own up to his guarentee. Who can you trust nowadays?:-(
 
I tipped my guy $10 extra...not an extravagant amount...I put it in a card, said that I appreciated his hard work and "Merry Christmas".

I tip them an extra month's worth at Xmas ($100). Just sent the check this week. I tip all my help the equivalent of an extra "times" worth - babysitter, cleaning women, etc. That's what the experts say to do.
 
Well, I never thought of that. We have a crew that comes out for our lawn. Would you have to give to each guy or just one card for all of them.

Thanks for bringing this up. We give a little Christmas bonus to the mail guy, UPS, cleaning lady and the milkman.
