Do you think this is true for the most part?

Just wondering...(since we are on a rampage today about body weight and bad weekends)...
So I eat good today and not as much as I normally would with hopes of getting my body weight back down to what it once was.Im a little hungry and I will be off and on...for about a week or two.But then it stops.Do you think your body gets use to eating a certain amount of food after a while?
Lori:)

It definately does! I believe that 100%!

You should not go hungry though...this will slow your metabolism down. Just make better food choices.
Unless you TRULY feel you have been OVER-eating...then I guess you should cut back and if your body got used to eating so much it will tell you it's hungry until it gets used to the new amount of food it's getting.

What do you mean JMO? You know I value your opinion!:)

I don't mean STARVING...I just mean hungry, like one hour before your next meal you know that you are starting to get hungry. To tell you the truth, I haven't been stuffing myself but I am rarely ever hungry.I have heard alot of people say that after one week of WW or any diet program they are not as hungry as they were the first week.

Lori, I know when I've been eating too much for awhile, my stomach seems to accommodate the increased eating, so that if I go back to my regular way of eating I feel kind of "hungry" for a bit, but then my stomach seems to adjust back again. When I was young my mother used to say that I had "stretched my stomach" and in a way, she seems to be right. I don't know what that phenomenon is, but it does ring true.

Good Question Lori.

The answers can debated in many ways. Do I have sound research to back up my opinions? No, I have only my personal experience,(disclaimer here.) to reflect on.

My observations have been that a many factors are related amount of food intake. sometimes one factor may be more influencial than another and disrupt the balance. Factors I am aware of from time to time are:

1. Rest. When I am sleep deprived, I crave carbs for the quick spike in blood sugar ( temporary feeling of energy) and then I get the subsequent quick drop in blood sugar (depletion fo energetic feeling) and crave more carbs. It goes on like that.

2. Habit. At times people may eat out of habit instead of hunger.

3. Heavy exercise. Rotations with more emphasis on strength may increase appetite. ( true for me)

4. Thirst/hydration. Hunger can be mistaken for thirst.

IMHO a body CAN get used to a ceraint amount of food, but it can be changed. Focusing on a healthy plan of eating & hydration & REST & exercise helps me. Also not over focusing (obsessing) works better for me. Having said that, If a person is way off on calorie consumption, a stricter regimen and accountability my be more helpful.

Something that I have found to be helpful...when you *think* you feel hungry, ask yourself if you are really hungry or are you something else, like BORED, procrastinating, angry, sad, nervous, TIRED (that's a big one).

I heard on Oprah from Tom Green that the gnawing feeling we get late at night is not really hunger but something else...something good, like our bodies using fat for energy or something like that. I cannot remember exactly what he said it was but I do remember him saying it's why you shouldn't eat before going to bed. Anyone remember what he said that was???

I remember that, too...and Oprah said that it was her body eating her fat stores. She said to herself before going to bed, "Here's my thighs...eat them! Go here and eat..there's plenty!"
