Do you sneak in movie snacks?

My DH and I don't eat the movies and we're teaching our kids not to do it either. Most movies are over in less than 2.25 hours (including the never ending previews!). I think my family can survive w/o food/drinks for that length of time! No guilt, no feeling of being robbed. :p

IMO, the real scam is getting people to think they can't enjoy a movie w/o eating thru it! It's a total Pavlovian response that theatre chains use to their benefit.

I know this might be kinda far out there...but do people really need to snack at the movies? Movies are only about 90 mins long so how come we are brain washed into believing we can't make it that long with out something to eat? (Especially the garbage that is available at the concession stands.)

If you watch some movie goers they are just mindlessly stuffing their faces - they are focused on the movies and don't seem to even notice that they are eating. I love my calories too much to not pay attention to them :D

When I go to the movies, sometimes I will bring and sometimes I will buy, but I will try to remember to bring water and the like because the prices are so crazy.

yep

I carry nuts, dark chocolate, maybe a peeled orange, and bottled water. The water is so nasty there yucko! My mom often gets a popcorn and I sometimes have some  but I need to break that habit. Its tough, she is sitting right there! If I really want an ice cream I bring a small bar from home with one of those little hello kitty ice packs ;) That way its cheap and calorie controlled.

Yes, we bring in snacks. I have 4 girls and for us to go to the movie and get one large popcorn and two drinks cost us about $55.00.. So we usually bring in drinks and candy. I do buy the big thing of popcorn (the size with the free refill) and will still spend quite a bit. On Tuesday our local movie theater only charges $5.00 a ticket all day. We like to hit the theater then.

I never sneaked in snacks, but I must admit that in my younger years, a few friends and I used to sneak in booze...but we weren't obnoxious about it. ;)

It's a thing we do together, my doctor son and me. (My DH thinks it's not good). When we see a movie together the prices are so horribly high for their goodies, it's ridiculous! In order to get out our message we bring in things and leave the wrappers to show them. Something we've been doing for awhile now. I suppose that's mean, but how else can you protest something like that?

ITA!

I rarely go to the movie theater (I can't put up with other people talking or smelling or with sticky floors, and the Dolby surround sound is often blastingly loud so I have to put pieces of kleenex in my ears for protection... though I do like to go for the occasional big-screen experience, like with Harry Potter movies---attended when I think very few people will be there), but when I did, I would either not eat, or bring my own (and ask for a courtesy cup for water...though I'm not sure if they do that anymore).

Last time I did eat movie popcorn (with some nutritional yeast I brought), I ended up waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air, then had hives going up--or down, I can't remember--my back, and I had to make a quick trip to the emergency room).

We are a family of 5 so the movie theater is an extra special treat that we don't do that often. Instead we just buy the movie when it comes out for $20.00 bucks and make it movie night in our living room. We dim the lights make our snacks and use our surround sound. The kids get really excited.:D So do I.

I rarely go to the movies -- maybe 3 or 4 times a year tops -- but when I do I enjoy a bag of popcorn. It's not a matter of whether or not I "need" a snack, or that I've somehow been "brainwashed" into believing I can't go 90 minutes without something to eat. I simply enjoy a little "treat" when I'm at the movies. It's a part of the overall experience. For heaven's sake, why is it so terrible to enjoy a little snack once in awhile? Unless you're going to the movies every other day this is, at most, an occasional treat. Honestly, I find your post a wee bit insulting!

Many people, especially the educated crowd here, eat pretty clean most of the time, and if you want to enjoy a bag of popcorn, then dammit, have it and savor every butter soaked morsel! I do and I'm not apologizing for it. Now excuse me while I prepare to "stuff my face" at the opening of the next Denzel Washington/John Travolta movie! :p :D

Now, Miss Lee, I know his will come as a COMPLETE shock, since we NEVER agree (;)), but that's exactly how I feel about it! Even the cost doesn't bother me so much, since, like you, I rarely do it. I just chalk it up as paying for a good time.

Off-subject a bit: Now, Miss Lee, do you, like me, treat yourself to a movie alone from time-to-time? I LOVE going to the movies alone!:D

I realize this wasn't directed at me, but I had to chime in...I've seen a couple of movies alone and was sure I wouldn't like it at first. Wrong! It's kinda cool, especially if you go to an early show.

I agree, it's fun! We don't have very nice theaters here, so I haven't done that in a while.

And don't forget the bon bons, milk duds, and jr. mints! I haven't been to the movie in years, but I might need to find a decent movie and go just to eat some of these teeth-rotting, fat-producing, small slices of heaven! ;)

You crack me up Miss Lee! :D

Hey TeTe!! How's my evil twin? :p :D

I have never gone to a movie alone, but I would in a heartbeat if DH didn't want to go with me -- I have no qualms about that whatsoever. There are so few movies that interest me anymore, and DH and I tend to have the same taste, so we always go together.

I often dine alone in restaurants when DH is out of town and I love it! I ask for a table in a quiet corner, hunker down with a good book or a magazine, and relish the great food and service! ;) :D

Mmmmmmmmm... Milk Duds and Jr. Mints!!! I LOVE those things!!! :D

Oh, what would a movie be without movie popcorn? I saw up with DD16 and she got a Vitamin water, I got a regular water and we shared a medium popcorn. It was yummy!! And the movie was good too! :D
