Do you own a steam cleaner that you like?

Cathlete
I was at a fair the other day and they were demonstrating the Smart Living Steam Cleaner for $129.00 which supposedly is $50 less than the infomercial. I've never seen the infomercial for this product and can't find it on a search. It heats to 110 degrees in 30 seconds (is that really hot enough to kill germs?) and comes with 4 color coded pads if you want to designate ones for specific rooms/areas. It also comes with a plastic rim plate to use on rugs and has a detachable handle to use on your mattress. I like the features but have never heard of it before. I was looking in Costco and they had the Shark Steam Pocket Mop but there's no detachable handle. I was also hoping to find one with a feature that I can use on clothes but that might be pushing it. Hey, I can try, right? :D Does anyone have a steam cleaner that they really like? TIA!

I have the Shark and love it for my tile and hardwood floors. I think I've seen the one you are talking about on TV with the short handle for countertops and such, but I don't remember much about it.

With a new puppy in the house, the ability to clean the kitchen floor quickly and easily and chemical free is fantastic. I use it 1x/day and really do love it.

Thanks for responding! Does yours have the carpet attachment and have you used it on that as well? Also, are there any cons to the one you have? Thanks again!

Mine does have the carpet attachment, but it doesn't actually clean the carpet (none of them will, really, you'll need super duper carpet steam cleaner for that, which we also own!) - it just supposedly sterilizes it. I think that aspect is a bit hokey, but I thought that going in, so didn't care about the feature at all.

No cons that I can think of - it's got a really long cord, which is great, heats up very quickly, trivial to use, etc. I really do love it for all our sealed flooring.

Oh - ok, one con. You'll realize how dirty your clean looking floors actually are! :)

YIKES! Maybe I don't want to know. The one I saw at Costco was $95.00 and came with 3 pads, I think. I'll have to look more closely at it. Thanks again!

I love mine for my ceramic tile. I am a hands and knees kind of cleaner and I like using the steam mop.

The Shark comes with 2 different sized "heads" - one smaller, triangular one that is great for getting into tight corners, and one larger rectangle form. Each form comes with 2 pads - having a back-up for each size is GREAT, as you usually wash them after each use. I can often get 2 uses out of a single pad - the Shark shoots steam out of both sizes of the base, so you can flip it over and use the other side if you didn't need both sides in a given session. It's also got a 360 degree swivel to it - you can easily twist it to get into any corner. The rectangular form also comes with what they call a duster, which is a cover that is made of big loops of fabric. This is great for steam cleaning the hardwoods without having to Swiffer them first - it works very well if you likely just have a pretty light dust layer. Anything major would have to be swept up first - but it's great for a quick clean before company comes over or something, when the house is generally in pretty good shape.

Ok, I think I'm done raving now. :)

Um, are you a rep for the company? :D That's some sales pitch! I think I'm sold, but one last thing. With your extreme knowledge of its usefulness, do you think you can come to my house and demonstrate it in person? I believe that's the only way I'll know for sure of its abilities! :) (Hey, it's worth a shot!)

Which one do you own and what did it come with?

It's the steam mop that is at the exhibitions all the time, I can't remember the name right now. But it came with a few micro fiber pads and a carpet thing, and it's blue.

I want to try it on my mattress but I heard you should never get your mattress wet and I am scared it will smell like wet dog after.

LOL!!!!!!! Seriously, I should ask them for a referral fee or something if you end up getting one! Actually, if you do get it, I *really* hope you like it otherwise I'll feel terrible!!!!!

My bf and I were steam cleaner shopping this weekend in stores, fairs and on the web. Geesh, there's just TMI out there. I'm still not sure which one I'll end up with because the more you research, the more options you have, the more confused it can become because you may want more than you originally thought. Wow, I'm tired all over again! :D If I do buy the Shark and for some reason I don't like it, when I return it and they ask me why, I'll just refer them to you. O.K.? :p

Hi,

How is it for cleaning the grout on tile floors? My kitchen has beautiful tile, rather it was beautiful when it was put in.....for some reason I selected this pretty wedgewood blue grout.....Bad decision. now it looks brownish in the high traffic areas. Does the steam clean this? Is it safe for hardwood? I always thought water was bad for wood.

I don't know how it would work on grout - I can't tell on mine as it's very dark. :) I don't know though - usually the grout is a bit depressed from the face of the tile itself, so the pad wouldn't touch the grout at all. Without something there rubbing off the dirt, even if the steam loosened it up, it wouldn't go anywhere. I think, unfortunately, you are stuck with hand scrubbing (the steam might help loosen the dirt if cleaning with a scrub brush isn't working either).

As for wood floors, as long as they are sealed, the steamer is great! It doesn't leave the floors wet wet - it's steam - so they are just slightly damp and dry VERY quickly.

I have a Monster steamer which I got off of Amazon. I tried a Shark, but after checking out the Monster, I went w/that. 1) more steam holes closer to the edge of the head 2) carpet attachment 3)bigger cleaning head. I love it. I do notice that it doesn't do much for the grout. I have a dark grout so what I can't see... I think i paid around 120$ for mine, came w/ free shipping at the time:)

Thanks all for your replies. I am giving up on the thought that this could work on grout...glad I asked before making the investment. We have a Big Green Machine for carpets, and it has a floor attachment, but it does not do steam, just hot water that is sprays into the carpet, then you can suck it back up immediately. DH said it will not go anything for grout and I think he is right.

My bf and I were looking at the Monster on ebay but I couldn't find a cloth attachment. Do you have to buy that separately? Can you tell me a bit more about the different areas you can use it and which model you have? Thanks in advance.

As far as the grout goes, the guy at the fair said that it won't clean the grout if it is currently dirty. You'd have to clean the grout with whatever cleaners they have for that and then the steamer will keep it clean afterwards.
