Do you look like you've lost 10 lbs...but havent?

Guess what, I want to lose 10 lbs :D But I'm wondering, if I don't "diet", just eat very well (lots of protein, clean, etc), if I could stay the same weight but go down a whole size? Has anybody done that here? Tell me, please, I need to know if it's possible!!! :)

10 pounds and 5 years ago, I worked out to the FIRM, and got to that '10 pound ago' weight. But I wasn't all that muscular, just thinner. I stopped working out, gained back the 10 pounds, and started Cathe a few months ago. Trouble is, I haven't been consistent enough to change my body a lot. I'm definately stronger with better endurance, and more toned, but not back into the clothes I wore back then. Sooo, with true consistency to Cathe workouts (5-6x a week), is it really truly possible to lose a size in inches, and not in pounds? Thanks! :)

I would imagine you'll get lots of replies that say YES. The theory being that you will lose fat but gain muscle, so you won't actually lose weight. Good luck. Have fun!

uhm yeah! That seems to be happening to me? I used to be a thin size 7 at about 120 lbs. I gained 20 the last few years. eeeeeeeeeeeeek! don't tell. Just from falling out of working out after my last son was born. I just realized all the sudden how much bigger I was and freaked out.
I've been working out regularly since January. (was very sporadically before that). I lost 10 lbs and I've gained 5 back. But I DO look tons better and have gone down a full size and am almost back into my 7s. I'm starting to think my weight will end up different. Maybe I'm lifting heavier? I'm also now using kettlebells, tuffer cardio and more Cathe. Before I mostly just did the firm and tae bo. I guess my workouts have been kicked up a notch. I may be more muscular this time around but I don't mind that. ;)
I rarely dig out my scale anymore. I don't like that how it makes me feel. I don't want to worry about a number. I want to just feel healthy, strong and fit. With that will come being lean. I'm sure I'll be back into my 7s soon. I may have sooner if I were more strict on my diet. I can't be too strict though or I'll go crazy. sigh. I wish I was THAT disiplined.
For instance today for lunch. I had wheatberry bread with turkey and greens, red onions and cranberry mayo. DELICIOUS! I guess if I was super strict I wouldn't eat mayo? or is that ok. lol. Eitherway I try to eat "healthy" in general just not super strict. I don't drink sodas or anything either. Just water and iced strawberry green tea with a little organic sugar. I will also splurge from time to time. For instance last night we had a potluck and I ate *gasp* fried chicken. lol. I won't worry about it though cause I've been soo good lately.

yes, it's possible and probable. Muscle weighs more than fat. If you go by the scale as a guide, you'll bang you head against the wall. You might consider getting a scale that also reads your body fat % or one of those body fat pinchers to measure your body fat progress.

Oops! Well maybe I should rephrase it to: "are you now fitting into the same clothes that you wore '10 pounds ago', but aren't 10 lbs lighter?"

In short, yes! I've lost two inches off my waist and my hips, but I am only about 3 or 4 pounds lighter than I was before. But, I'm fitting in to clothes I bought 7 years ago, which I've only been able to wear sporadically in the past. I really watched my portions for about 5 or 6 weeks and worked out 5 or 6 days per week. I'm still working out 5 or 6 days per week, but I've loosened up on the eating. I can only eat a really restricted diet for a short amount of time, then it makes me crazy. I'm lucky, though, in that I can maintain a smaller size without much effort on the food front, as long as I'm really, really consistent with the exercise.

So, good luck, you can do it!

I have to say I'm the most scale frustrated person out there...The scales tell me one thing and my size 14 pants tell me a whole other story...I've been doing cathe for 2 years now and I can chuck a 50 pound bag of horse feed from the ground, up to the truck about 4 ft or better...70 pound bails of hay...look out...my hubby can't even do it. smile...and he likes to watch...

I try not to pull out the scale much either...

I'm up about 12 pounds from 20+ years ago yet I'm wearing a smaller size in clothing. I thought I was doing good until someone posted about how clothing sizes have changed and a 4 today is really a 6 in the "old days":(

UGH...very confusing! But I do believe you can weigh more and wear a smaller size as you build lean muscle and drop fat.

Calvillo - Could you recommend a good kettlebell workout? I really want to try one but don't know about any of the workouts. And oh -- I HATE the scale! It's terrible that it can put you in a good mood or a bad mood.

Yes, there are only a few kettlebell dvds out right now so they are always the ones recommended. So far I have done Providence and Laurens dvds. I LOVE them both. I also have Newport and Firepower and haven't done them yet. (recent purchases) I've viewed them though and they look great too. Laurens is a great place to start. She has instruction seperate from the workouts.

Also on fitting clothes if your gaining weight (not muscle). Yes that is how weight can creep up on you. You think your still wearing the same size but you've gained. They will just fit differently. I'd say I'm only 5 lbs away from fitting my 7s again but I could loose another 10-15 and still fit them comfortably. I think almost every 10 lbs you gain you move up a size. Atleast it works out that way for me. I had gained 20 and went up 2 sizes. Does that answer your question?
