My DH and I entertain business people over constantly. I love to decorate with different things according to seasons, I love using bright gerber daisies and stuff like that. It used to really freak me out, but then I noticed, that people do not notice a dirty house, they just want the food, the company and the drinks.
So now, its easy. I scatter around little dishes of nuts, M&M's, coasters for glasses, I always have wines stocked and a full bar stocked...DH acts as bartender if needed...I light a few candles around the house in the winter...and just make sure the bathrooms are clean and the floor is clean...thats it! And I even order pizza sometimes, I serve it with cool napkins and make sure there are fresh flowers. Its the little things that people remember, really. Having some soft music playing in the background is nice...I enjoy making people feel comfy and cozy, like its their house too, you know? So I never make anything too formal. Grilling in the summer with paper plates is great, so is having your guests help you with the cooking...it relaxes them instantly.
In fact I have 14 business guests arriving on the 14 of next month.
