to the Us Constitution? There have been 27, the first 10 of which are known as the Bill of Rights? The Conventions of a number of the States having, at the time of adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added, and as extending the ground of public confidence in the Government will best insure the beneficent ends of its institution;

Resolved, by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America, in Congress assembled, two-thirds of both Houses concurring, that the following articles be proposed to the Legislatures of the several States, as amendments to the Constitution of the United States; all or any of which articles, when ratified by three-fourths of the said Legislatures, to be valid to all intents and purposes as part of the said Constitution, namely:

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Amendment II

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Amendment III

No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.

Amendment IV

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Amendment V

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

Amendment VI

In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense.

Amendment VII

In suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise reexamined in any court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.

Amendment VIII

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

Amendment IX

The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

Amendment X

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.
 
Yeah and the.....

Patriot Act wiped out at least some of these all in one fell swoop, unfortunately.
God I hope I didn't open a can of worms similar to a few other threads in here.....

WOW....BOBBI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm very impressed you copied and pasted the amendaments from some website....Does it have anything to do with the previous thread you are wrong with some things???

Apparently, like me, he had very mixed feelings about the Word. I admire Connie's faith and her lovingness.

Do you know why I have delved into all this so deeply? Because I "lost my religon" and what I had learned by rote as a child had no meaning to me. It was extraordinarly painful for me and it started a quest for spirituality, a search for meaning. It was not easy! It hurt so badly, it was palpable but I have not desired to become a Christian since I first decided that I wasn't. But I have remained involved in Christian charities and I have kept those aspects I find true. I love to sing hymns and I adore my family even if they are on a diffrent page. I had the best chuckle in the world when Connie made me realize that she would be praying for me! Without rancour. With sincerety and love and it was so sweet. She will try to convert me back in the best intentioned way in the world. Bless her and that beautiful smile. I needed that.

I have had questioned all my life. When I was told to step out of my science class when they taught evolution. I consider myself at a disadvantage having been steeped in the mythologies of the Judeo-Christianity from early childhood. I appreciate that you are secure your faith but don't you tell me that I can't question mine!. I have a library of books that explore all the possibilites and I have a load of books that contradict the bible as it contradicts itself. I consider myself a simp for getting so involved in this. This is so emotional and I much pefer to be intellectual about it but here it comes again and again. I have never been so honest as I have in these forums as in any aspects of my spiritual life. But I am fearless! I am relieved that Mel's movie played to Christians so well. I have never seen a Mel Gibson film save Mad Max so why start now? I dwell soundly in the twenty-first century! I love technology, science and I am more than ready to dump the archaic beliefs of the past. I respect that you are not but please don't give me a hard time for going my own way! I was so pissed last night when I discovered the topic was locked. I though that we had agreed and disagreed pretty well and we had had an honest and open discussion and that cannot be a bad thing!

Hotspur, bless you! You make me think! I hope I have not offended you or any of the Christians at Cathe.com. but I am not a Christian and I want you to respect that and accept it and to allow me to express my view freely and I will listen to yours and protect our right to express it and not be so bitchy and argumentative if you wil afford me the same priveledge!
