Do you get red in the face?

My face gets red...really red when I'm doing an intense cardio workout. I don't have high blood pressure, it is and always has been on the low side, and my heart rate is always in a good place when I'm working out, but my face gets red to the point that people comment on it!

Normally, I workout at home and wouldn't care, but lately I've been using the fitness center at school to do Cardio Coach and it's getting downright embarrasing! Does this happen to anyone else?

same here...my face gets really red when I exercise and I've had people comment, too. I'm really fair complected, so maybe that's it.

Same here. My bp is very low but I always turn red and splotchy. Actually, that happens during s*x, too. LOL TMI, I know!!!!

Well, HALF my face turns red as a beet. I literally will have a line down my face like a mime! I've asked the docs why I get red like that, and no one can tell me. I also sweat more on one side of my head. I think I'm just nutso. :+

LMAO I am the same way Marie! Exercising and the *other thing* :)

Well, at least I'm in good company here. I'd love to know what causes it. I hate having these young 'uns in the gym look at me like they think I'm going to pass out or something. :+

Oh, speaking of splotchy...I am so jealous of women, who, when they cry, all that happens to them is that their face gets wet. Ten minutes later, you'd never know! I, on the other hand, take at least an hour for my face to get back to normal from the red blotches and my eyes look like little slits...even if I cry a little!!!!

My face gets beet red too. This has happened since I was a child. My DD's have the same problem. We're all very fair skinned. My dermatologist told me people who have this problem can be predisposed to Rosacia, so watch what kinds of creams you use because Rosacia can flare up when your skin gets irritated.

Absolutely!! I was nicknamed "Tomato Face" in junior high for all of my classes after PE. It has never gone away... although it has decreased a ton the more cardio I do and the better shape I am in.

My dad is the exact same way. :D

Yup. So does my mom and my sister. Also, if it's cold outside and warm inside my cheeks turn really red (not THOSE cheeks!!!). People always ask me if I'm sick. And I can feel it too - they get really hot. And when I'm nervous or upset my chest gets all blotchy. So if I know I'm going to have a confrontational meeting or an interview, I wear something high on the neck. :)

My redness and health stats are the same. low blood pressure, ect. i think some people have a cascular system that responds that way. As long as your heart rate is where it should be and your not over heated, etc. all should be fine

Yes, Fach,

I've always (even as a kid) gotten very red when doing cardio/playing hard. Being exposed to hot and cold temperatures does it too (skiing, sledding, hot tubs, etc). Two dermatologists have told me that I have rosacea and that this is a symptom. They said I should avoid the activities (and some foods and alcohol) to avoid the symptom (yeah, right). Well, since it really doesn't bother ME much I just live with it. I've gotten used to concerned comments and just tell people not to worry. DH thinks its cute though.

TeTe,
I sure know what you mean about the slits. It takes about 1 minute of crying and my eyes are puffy for 24 hours!!

Me, too--red as a beet! And it stays that way for quite a while after I'm done working out. Been that way for as long as I can remember. Someone once told me that it means you have a lot of capillaries under your skin, and that is a good thing. Don't know if it's true or not. I am also fair skinned.

Yes! My blood pressure has always been very low too. I have no idea what my heart rate should be at, but it usually seems to average about 150 bpm with an all-time high of 180. I hope that's ok. I'd hate to drop dead of a heart attack!

I have been this way since I started working out too. I just figured it was normal.

I wanted to respond here because I too get red in the face...but I have darker skin (my dad is Black, my mom is Italian). But that sure doesn't stop me from getting bright red when I work out!! It is a very interesing sight let me tell you!! :)

In the cold, my nose turns red as well. Go figure.

I look horrid when I cry, too. It takes a whole day for the swelling in my eyes to go away.

And to the OP, yes, I get red in the face after intense cardio. I sweat like a dog, too. When I lift weights, my knees sweat.

It's a vascular response. Some people are just more prone to it than others. I look horrible when I workout. But I am at home so I don't worry about it. The thing is the more you flush, the more dialated or open those blood vessels become even at rest and more of redness stays behind. Leaving a red tint to the face. Sucks, cause laser (which isn't covered by insurance) is the only way to get rid of that redness once it stays.
