Do you carry ID when you run, if not you should.

We had a very sad situation happen in a nearby town here in Texas on Saturday. A jogger suffered a heart attack while out jogging. He was taken to the hospital, but died yesterday. He was not carrying an ID on him and so far there have been no missing person reports turned in so they have not been able to identify him. I'm keeping him and his family (whereever they are) in my prayers.

Please take the time to carry id with you. Hopefully none of us here will face this situation, but even a simple fall could cause a bump on the head that could prevent you from responding when help arrives.

:) I do - always.

Oh, Jean! Thanks for reminding everybody about this!

I wear a 'toe tag' on my running shoes and I wear a wrist ID band from Road ID. WELL WORTH it in case anything were to ever happen to me. Also, when I head out to run, I like to call at least one person to give them an idea of the route I'm taking, just in case I don't show up for the busstop for my kids or something.

ITA on carrying ID and Gayle, your phone call idea is terrific! When I go walking I leave a note at home that can be easily found. It's just a quickie and includes time I left, where I planned to go and when I expect to return. I think this is a good idea even if you live alone. Like others have said, you just never know.

Chocolate IS the answer, regardless of the question.

When I hike I have my cell phone with "ICE" ("In Case of Emergency") in my address book so they know who to reach. It's also good if you have an emergency and can call for help. I wouldn't even consider leaving home without it (I put it on silent so it doesn't disrupt my hike!).

I always wear my RoadID when I go out for a run, and I always bring my cell phone with me. Also, my DH always knows when I go out for a run and I tell him how long to expect me to be gone, and what route I plan to run. I'm totally anal and paranoid about it, but better safe than sorry, I say! :)

I also read somewhere that in addition to putting an ICE number in your cell phone, you should also put a "Home" number in there as well.

Sad story about the runner.:(

Thanks for posting this! I know I should bring my phone with me. But I never do. Women's athletic clothes are so stingy on pockets to start with, and I have 2 dogs taking up both hands. Then there are keys, dog biscuits, plastic bags, and an iPod taking up pockets, and as much as I'd like to carry my phone, ID, can of mace, water bottle or whatever, it really starts to get difficult to "pack" just to go running.

I had never heard of RunID before, but I just ordered one. Thanks for the tips.

I found a awesome neoprene bag for running/working out. It clips onto my waistband and is out of the way, doesn't flop around, is compact, and fits my I-pod, ID, a phone if I push it, and has a zippered compartment inside for my key.. In fact, I keep my I-pod in it in my purse when not at the gym to keep the I-pod from turning into an expensive paperweight.

My husband is a mountain biker and road cyclist. When he out, God knows where, he carries an old driver license card with him.
