Are there kits out there for at-home pedicures???? I've never had one and I don't have the discretionary income to spend the money on one right now. But my feet take such a beating that I think I need to start taking care of them. Anybody know of any kind of kit for do-it-yourselfers???

Bath and Body works has some nice kits .. usually in the gift section .. small kits on up to everything in one kits .. they are probably more affordable than others out there ..

I have seen some at specialty shops but they were rather pricey!!

I LOVE the Bath & Body Works pedicure stuff. I do my own pedicure now(trying to save a little money:) ) and their stuff makes it so easy. I LOVE their Disappearing Act Cuticle Remover. It makes taking care of cuticles super easy and I hate taking care of the cuticles. They often have a gift-set(as posted above) and I think all of their stuff is reasonably priced.

Another vote for the Bath & Body Works at home pedicure kit!!! I splurge on my nails, but I usually do my pedicures at home and this kit is wonderful!!

I got my pedicure stuff from Sally's Beauty Supply. I really like the smell of their "footbath shampoo; foot lotions", etc. that I use in my foot bath.

OK, thanks! That gives me a few places to start my shopping at.

But another question.....HOW do you actually DO a pedicure? LOL Silly question, I know, but I've never gotten one nor have I ever seen one done. Cuticles, soaking, nails, callouses (sp?), paint...etc. What order. How? What tools? (yes, I'm completely CLUELESS!)

Gayle,

Where I go, you start with a warm foot soak, then they take off any polish and clean up/shape the nails and cuticles, and put you back in the soak for a bit; after this, they'll remove any rough skin or callouses...after that, they do a sugar scrub massage on your feet and lower legs followed by a cooling spritz, and then they paint the nails last. I went to another place once (cheaper) where there weren't as many steps, but the general procedures were the same: soak, trim/shape nails & cuticles, smooth feet, and paint.

When I give myself pedicures, it's very basic - I have to admit, I don't use all the tools the pros use. I use clippers, a nail file, a a manicure stick (to push back the cuticles-I don't know it's exact name), a cuticle trimmer, and a pumice stone.

To save money, I do my own in the fall & winter months and have them professionally done in spring & summer. One affordable option is to go to a local beauty school if you have one near you. You can get a great discount on most services.
