Do I tip the guys that are installing my carpet now?

I had some damage in one of my rooms in my condo. The association is paying for the replacement of the carpet in that room which is about 12' x 13'. I am also having them put carpeting on my steps to the basement which I am paying for. There are 2 guys working. Do I tip them and if so, how much? Thanks.

i may be wrong....but i dont tip for something like that. they get an hourly wage, just like most of the rest of us. no one ever tipped me for being a great office mgr!

and - yay!! new carpet!

I wouldn't think you would tip them either.

The only people I really tip are my hairdresser and the waitstaff in a restaurant.

I wouldn't tip either. If you feel like tipping because they went above and beyond their job duty, . . like they fixed another room that they were not supposed to then I would tip.

Sometimes I give laborers a tip if they're really busting their butts & I know they're not being paid very well. Tipping is a gesture of appreciation. If you really appreciate their work, & if you can AFFORD it, go for it.

Thanks everyone! You guys are great! I always feel obligated to tip for some reason. I have not asked them to do anything beyond what they came here to do. They are very nice but since it is not necessary, I won't. I'm not working anyway (not that they know that) so I'd like to save my $$$ for more important things - like workout dvd's! :) Thanks again!

I do offer cold drinks and fruit. As far as the fresh baked cookies go in this house, um, well, Mrs. Fields where are you?????

I have a confession to make. I broke down and did tip them. I asked them to do a couple of very minor things that I think they should have done anyway and my obligatory self kicked in. They were extremely nice guys. Now I'm kind of regretting that I did it but it's done.

On a positive note, the carpets look great. I'm going to go now and bask in the new aroma. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! :)

Hey no good deed goes unpunished. Feel good about doing something nice for someone. :)

I know, you're right. Sometimes I just feel awkward as they're about to leave so again, I feel an obligation. I really shouldn't feel this way and I think I'm getting upset because I don't know how to not feel this, and to top it all off, then I feel as though I didn't give them enough. O.K., apparently I've got some issues here. I think I will do STS disc 9 Legs and hopefully work off some of this frustration. ARGH!!!!!

I always tip everyone...it drives my mother crazy :) I would give $5 or 10 bucks. Or, like the PP said, offer something to drink like Gatorade.

Do what you feel comfortable with and it will be the "right" thing to do!
