Do I need to workout more then 1 hr a day..............

Gyggles1

Cathlete
Hi
Ok now that I have an idea for what I ight choose for my workouts now how often should I be working out....... I am going to add more weights in like PLB & PUB but I think I also still need my cardio but here is the thing.... I usually choose 1 hr tape a day 5 days a week. So now if I need to do cardio as often as I do weights does that mean 2 tapes in 1 day ? YIKES! I really don't have time for 2 hrs before work in the AM and at night I am wiped out... I just don't get how I will fit in say 1 hr of PUB then another 1 hr of cardio....is that right ?

Now I do this:
Day 1 - Bootcamp
Day 2 - All Cardio ( CK, SB, etc. )
Day 3 - Circuit Max
Day 4 - KPC or Step Blast
Day 5 - Push & pull.......... so how do I do this if I want to tone + lose fat as well. I guess how much in a day ?
I am sorry if I sound so lost, I guess I am ,lol.

RE: Do I need to workout more then 1 hr a day.............

Hi Laura,
I don't know how much time you have in the evening. My cardio is 35 minutes of mostly running and a little walking. I am doing the Freestyle training.
Anyway, instead of doing 2 tapes, you might want to walk, run or bike ride.... just a thought ..... God bless Rhonda :7

I trieed to reply 3 times but my reply did not show up. I hope it doesn't show up 3 times later!

RE: Do I need to workout more then 1 hr a day.............

Here's my reply:
If I were you, I would consider pure weights on 3 days and pure cardio on 3 days. Or, 2 and 2 with a circuit workout for the 5th (and 2 rest days).

Example:

Day 1 Full body weights
Day 2 Step Blast or Rhythmic Step
Day 3 CTX Kickbox (minus biceps) (includes abs)
Day 4 Lower body weights (no abs)
Day 5 KPC
Day 6 Rest
Day 7 Upper body weights

Example with 2 rest days:

Day 1 Step (Power Max)
Day 2 Full body weights, incl. abs
Day 3 Rest
Day 4 walk or run or bike. Or, a video like Cardio Kicks
Day 5 Upper body weights, incl. abs
Day 6 Rest
Day 7 Lower body weights

Just try to do abs 2 or 3 times a week. If you keep track of each component each week (Cardio, abs, chest, back, bi, tri, shoulders) you will stay even and know what you're doing. For a copy of a form that I use to keep track, you can download here: http://www.geocities.com/ciaobella98765/Fitness.html
(click on Workout diary and Weight logs under Links, then choose Workout log, Word).

For best weight logs for Cathe workouts, if you have Microsoft Excel, go to http://www.fitnessvideofanatics.com/catheites/worksheets/JodiBiglow_worksheet2003b.xls. This is a master sheet of all Cathe videos from the Wedding video to Legs and Glutes (a masterpiece by Jodi Biglow, some of these were based on mine but improved and expanded).

Whoa, I hope this helped and is not too much info! :)

RE: Do I need to workout more then 1 hr a day.............

Wow Connie, you look amazing!
Since finding Cathe, I have ordered more weight workouts and I too work out about one hour a day. I have been doing just as you suggested using weights 3 days/week ( 1 total body day, 1 circuit day, and then split upper and lower body, alternating with step, Cathe's kickbox and my elliptical). I have only been doing Cathe about 3-4 months, and I have lost about one clothing size. I guess how long did it take to like you do now? I guess this is one of the great things about this forum- MOTIVATION!

RE: Do I need to workout more then 1 hr a day.............

Hey lax lover - took about 2 years. The physical gains are just as exciting as the clothing sizes, and it keeps me going! Also, sharing with others is very motivating!

Thanks for the compliments!

RE: Do I need to workout more then 1 hr a day.............

Connie,

you do look great what a great inspiration. I have been doing Cathe for about 3 months. I love her workouts. I just ordered the upper and lower body pyramids, and I have MIS, muscle indurance, cardio and weights, and imax2, circuit max kick box, kp&c and a lot of her step tapes. I noticed the inch loss right away but not the weight as much.
Do you have a certain eating program you follow?, I have been told by a lot of people to try and eat a little more healthy protein when doing weights, do you have any suggestions on that. I am about 12 pounds heavier now than I was about 4 years ago when I was at weight watchers goal, but I am wearing the same size, so it gets a little confusing and depressing when someone says that I need to be a certain weight, but I am wearing the same size now as I was when I was at goal.:7
Thanks for any advice

RE: Do I need to workout more then 1 hr a day.............

Debra,

I e-mailed you, but your specific questions here I will address.
You have already found out that you can weigh more and be more fit! Just like a Siamese cat, so slim and yet when you pick it up, it feels so heavy! That's how we want to get, to be fit, strong, able to deal with whatever hubby throws at us ;) and able to move furniture, much less injury-prone.

I found lots of great protein sources when looking for them, hunting them down. Some people I know hate one or another of these foods. For them, they'll have to keep looking. Shrimp is almost pure protein. Cottage cheese has a good composition (I eat the 2% for taste) and we eat eggs a lot at our house-- they're affordable!

I have been using a measuring tape lately too. The scale, for me, has stayed the same for a few years now, except after a one-week travel vacation I gained 5 pounds. (Makes me want to stay home from now on)

Keep on reading and researching. You will find conflicting info but when you continue, you will also uncover some enduring, basic guiding principles.

RE: Do I need to workout more then 1 hr a day.............

Thanks Connie, I really appreciate it. I do eat the 2% cottage cheese a lot, albacore tuna, and shrimp when it is on sale, LOL.I am just trying to eat a healthy balanced low fat diet. I guess I shouldn't stress about the scale so much, but weight watchers has it drilled in my head for my height, ect, I should weigh this much. I am just going to continue with what I am doing now, and you have given me some great advice. I will let you know how I like the pyramid tapes, I should get them tomorrow. This morning I did MIS, I love that tape. Thanks for all the motivation you have given me. Keep up the great work.

RE: Do I need to workout more then 1 hr a day.............

Connie -

Thank you so much for your repsonse to me, you look WONDERFUL!
I wanted to write to you sooner but I have been swamped this weekend but I do want you to know how much I appreciate your help. :)

I was going to ask you the same thing about eating. I know Debbie has asked alot on what I wanted to know already, heehee... I know for me I weighed in this week and gained 1.4 pds ( now I am up 4 pds from the holidays that I am still fighting with ) and I am so confused I am like WHAT is wrong. I tried more protein last week & it does seem to make a difference for me feeling more satisfied but its so confusing about the scale. My clothes are fitting the same so I know I can't be gaining to bad, I don't know. I have taken my measurements & do check them monthly and those are all the same right now as last month.

I printed out the workout journal log. Thank you for sharing :)

I also lost my weight on WW & they say to do pts but its hard to know what to do with the way we work out, is it enough or to much ?
Is a set amount of calories a better way to go ? I am so lost... I do like eggs, tuna, cottage cheese & shrimp, I am not to picky, LOL.

Well now I am rambling, so I will go for now.
Thank you,
Laura

RE: Do I need to workout more then 1 hr a day.............

These questions of yours are wisely asked. WW seems to have a lot of clients who are not as active as we Cathe-ites are. The best way to find out is through trial and error. Eat until full some days, and keep control on other days. Try it that way for a while. After you learn more about what keeps you feeling best, meal planning will stop taking as much time and attention from the rest of life.

When you are lifting weights and increasing muscle mass, you just need some more protein calories in your diet than if you are not. And the carbs can stay the same (you are burning more cals) or go down to compensate (if you were doing pure cardio before). Measurements are more important that weight when you are doing this.

Really make an effort to give yourself variety. We get into food "ruts" but when you take the effort to branch out, eating really becomes more enjoyable. And better for you. Your protein sources look good!

I should practice what I preach more! I had this hot butternut squash, um, bisque or puree last weekend and it was really good. I usually never have things like that.

Anyone have a recipe for it (or better yet- can I get it in a can?!)?

HTH

RE: Do I need to workout more then 1 hr a day.............

Hi Connie.
I recorded two sessions from Cathe from Fit TV and I work out with them about 3-4 times a week. I love that woman!
I would like to do more though. I have been athletic my whole life, and have never had a problem with weight (i stopped working out after I graduated college) But, two years ago once I hit that 27 yr mark i started to see a little bulge around my middle that could use some toning. I have recently watched my eating, and am now eating very healthy, and 4-5 small meals a day, including my protein.
I don't really have too much fat too lose, just a little around my waist. But I could defintely use some lifting in other places.
What I need is a really good series that will help me tone and gain more muscle definition. Im thinking the CTX videos?
Or maybe the Intensity series? The CTX series does just enough workout of each part of the body that I would like to target, but also includes the strong cardio that I like and need as well. But I would still like your input.

Thanks a bunch!
Karen

RE: Do I need to workout more then 1 hr a day.............

Hi Karen,

I cannot say which one would be better for you. It could be just the difference between the music you like, and the amount of space you have.

If I had to choose for myself, though, I would get CTX. That series is a masterpiece. Between UB split and Leaner Legs, it includes a very thorough full body workout, and the cardio is top notch.

I have, and use, all Cathe's DVD's, and others prefer other workouts, but for me, that's what I would get.

RE: Do I need to workout more then 1 hr a day.............

Thanks for your input!

My space is somewhat limited, but not much. I do have a good size area to do leg kicks and jumps and what not, about a few feet on all sides around me.

Music isnt much of a concern. I like to listen to the motivation of Cathe. But, I do like upbeat music to get me going.
