I've seen some other posters take the opportunity to vent on here on occasion about something that's aggravating them, and if you all don't mind, I would like to do that, as well...just to get it off my chest. You can ignore this post if you don't want to hear my rantings. ;-)
I have a coworker who is so disrespectful, especially of me. I can't explain very easily what she does, but she makes faces aimed at things I'm saying. For instance, I really like football and since I live in Indiana, I've been following just a little bit what's going on with Edgerrin James and the Colts (he has not re-signed with the Colts and might get released to another team - bad move for the Colts, IMO!!). So, another football fan asked me what I thought, and I started to talk about an interview I read of Edgerrin James where he said he would like to stay in Indianapolis, but wanted to feel more secure about where he will be in 5 years. I guess the main issue is that the Colts don't want to sign him to a long-term deal and would rather string him along year after year. He doesn't feel secure about his professional future, and who can blame him? My coworker (who, mind you, knows as much about football as I do about brain surgery...and to the best of my knowledge has no interest in the sport whatsoever) began to talk right over me from over her cubicle wall, "Oh, it's all about the money, and you know it is, blah blah blah." I just let her finish, then ignored her and continued what I was saying. She continued to interject, and I continued to just sit there and look at this guy who I was talking to, waiting for her to finish, then I just took back up where I left off. Then, this coworker of mine got up from her desk and came around the cubicle wall where she could see us, and as she walked by, I glanced at her as I was continuing to talk about how in Edgerrin's mind, it's more about the security than the money, but that the money was still important. As I glanced at her, I saw her making this very disrespectful face of "She's so stupid, I pity her ignorance" at the guy I was talking to.
I was really angry at this. She does this sort of thing on a regular basis and acts like she is Miss I-Know-Everything-Better-Than-Everyone-Else, and disrespects me to OTHER employees by the way she reacts nonverbally to what I'm saying. I normally just ignore her and try to brush it off, trying to stay professional and not become confrontational, but it's really starting to aggravate me. She's much older than I am and very set in her ways, and she's very disrespectful of many people, not just me. She's even disrespectful of our company's top executives, thinking that her boss's time is more valuable than theirs! Um, sweety, I hate to tell ya, but your boss is in some serious hot water with the top executives (I know, because my bosses ARE top executives), and if I were you, I'd be trying a little harder to make him look better in their eyes. (she and I are both administrative assistants, and part of the job description is "make your boss look good to his bosses", but she seems to not realize that). I figure I can just give her time and she'll dig her own grave. Patience...and time...and she'll just become another wind bag.
Thanks for allowing me to vent!
I feel better just having written it all down.
