Disappointed in myself

Vicki, thank you so much. You are very kind. I applaud you for teaching your students not to bother with the scale. Congratulations on all your progress! Your life sounds like an awesome success story. Thank you so much for sharing it here. You are an inspiration! :D

Nancy,

I just wanted to say that YOU LOOK AMAZING!!! And yes, I battle with the scale every single day. I wish I could throw away the scale, but I don't see that ever happening. Maybe when I'm 70? I'd love the freedom. Good luck to you. You're an amazing woman in so many other ways than a number on a scale.

Oh, and by the way, when I read "affect" I thought...hmmm ... affect...effect...affect...effect...Nancy must be right. She's an attorney after all and as I get older I do start to screw words up more often. Isn't that funny! I used to have perfect grammar and spelling and I have no idea WHAT is happening to me! :p Thank goodness for spell check! I wonder if we could get it installed here, although that wouldn't help in situations like these, but it would help with my other problem words. So thank you so much for being human. ;)

Deb, thanks so much GF. I did not mean to imply in any way that I think of myself as overweight. I am generally content with my weight, which is why I was so surprised to find myself feeling like a teenager again when the stupid bathroom scale (it's my DH's, not mine :p) suddenly registered an extra 4 lbs. It was unnerving to realize I was that emotionally vulnerable.

The ringer t is adorable, and I can just picture it on you. How bout a pic for your avatar? Isn't Sophie's art awesome? Our Miss Sophie is the bees knees.

Suz, ME TOO!!! ME TOO!!!! I used to be perfect at spelling and grammar too. I actually used to make fun of a boss I had who didn't know the difference between affect and effect. NOW LOOK AT ME! I make that mistake a lot these days. Aging has humbled me. ;) Thank you for commenting on that. It's a relief to know I'm not the only one.

Thanks so much for saying I look amazing! This thread is doing wonders for my ego. :7 :7

That's funny Nancy. My sister and I used to make fun too. Serves me right! We are also being humbled - well, me more than her. She's 10 months older than I am and it's happening to me first. x( She works from home and I swear the more you see things spelled wrong and words used wrong year after year from other people out in the workplace the more you start to question your own spelling and grammar usage. That's my theory anyway (that way I don't have to own up to the age thing!).

You DO look amazing. I wasn't just saying that. :)

Oh boy do I struggle with the scale issue, so I totally relate to your post.

But I really posted to tell you how great you look! You are one beautiful fit woman, even if the scales do make you crazy:7.

Maggie:)

I use the scale probably every day. I know, if I would not do it I'd be heavier. I have my "green zone" "yellow zone" and "red zone". If I happen to be I the red zone I just cut back for a while until I'm back in the green zone. I'm there though most of the time. I don't love it or hate it, it is just a tool for me.
Nancy, you do look lovely! :)

I have seen many of your pictures on this forum and I have to say, I think you look awesome for your age, or my age for that matter!!!! I am 36 and can get sucked into that down-on-your-self -- imagine because of the scale number. It is so hard to really, really believe in how you feel and not that dumb, dumb number!!!

For whatever it means, I think you look beautiful and can only dream of looking as good as you!!

Mary

Nancy,
Please don't be so hard on yourself. 3-4 pounds is pretty normal fluctuation in weight. By your picture, you look great!! Personally, I don't own a scale and won't buy one this late in the game.
Hang in there!! Those numbers aren't worth it!!

Nancy, you look great so don't be so hard on yourself. I know a lot of us are too obsessed with the scale. I know I am. I don't want to say how many times I weight myself each day. One thing I've noticed though is that when I have a couple of extra pounds on me, my body fat is lower. I'd actually rather have less body fat a couple of extra pounds. I know everyone's different, but heavy lifting has definitely helped me along with a cleaner diet (although I definitely cheat) and less cardio.

I'm now 56 and still have an eating disorder. I fight every single day for my choices of food. And those scales rule the world. I feel much better when I eat lots of fruits, vegies, legumes, nuts, and olive oil.

I seem not to check my weight so often when I eat clean.

You also look fantastic! And remember you are not alone, there are many of us out there. Keep your chin up.

((((Nancy))))

I have not read many of the above replies and I am sorry I missed this when you posted it.

My thoughts are that your feelings are normal, but they can be changed. I was very much the same way with the scale.

It may help top remember that a number on the scale that you choose, it not an accurate measure of your overall health or beauty. Of course you know that the whole picture of health is much more complicated than weight or body mass index or percent body fat. Lets also remember beauty really does come from within.

I believe as women we need to ignore the media and companies that play into women trying to be skinny. Instead we need to embrace healthy eating sleeping and exercise.

nancy, please consider learning about the benefits of periodical heavy lifting to strengthen your bones and combat a declinning metabolism that occurs naturally with age.

If you want to weigh your self periodically, go ahead. Just remember it does NOT define your happiness or health.

(((hugs)))

If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail.

Nancy,

I cannot believe it! You aren't perfect after all :)

I have the same issues as you so I do not weight myself. I go by how my clothes feel and how I look.

As Judy says, you are really doing yourself a disservice by not taking advantage of weight training. It is so good good for us...especially at our age!

Judy and Candi, you are absolutely right. Please don't think I'm not doing any weight training. I am doing endurance weight training with light weights and fast reps. I'm a prime candidate for osteoporosis and I know how important it is to weight train. I do have every intention of overcoming my fear of heavier weight someday. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Nancy,

Your post sparked my interest and I can understand where you are coming from.

I am okay with how I look, but just don't want to know my weight. I weigh more than I look and I'm aware of that...for some reason seeing those numbers on the scale doesn't work for me.
