Wasn't there a recent thread on digital camera suggestions?

Not that I'm a tad panicked about doing all my shopping today! I remember this recent thread but can't find it on my searches?

I'm thinking my daughter should have a new camera for her trip abroad.

Thanks!

I have the Canon PowerShot A95.

The main thing I found was that you can switch the memory size in your camera to hold more pictures, but then the quality of the pictures is compromised.

You will need a bigger memory card in most cases and then you can set the resolution higher to get better pictures. They say the higher resolution is for if you plan to really enlarge your pics, but my pics looked really pixel"y" or digital"ish" with the lower resolution.

Good luck!

I have the Kodak Easy Share too and just LOOOOOVE it! It's my second one and so much easier than the first one I had, which I can't even remember. It's super easy---plug in the USB and go!

If your daughter will be using this camera abroad - battery life is important. Look for a camera that has "rechargable batteries" NOT the 4 alkaline batteries. Also, buy an extra battery. Someone mentioned the SONY Cyershot DC-200 - 7 megapixel camera is a very good camera - the battery life is good AND it is easy to use. If you decide to go with a SONY, ONLY buy the SONY-BRAND MEMORY STICK because the Scan Disk brand is NOT COMPATIBLE. See link for review of this camera. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonydscp200/

You pretty much can't go wrong with a Canon camera. The Powershot S-70 is good. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canons70/ So, are the following:

Canon Powershot S-80 http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canons80/
Canon SD 550 http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canonsd550/

REMEMBER TO BUY AN ADAPTER if she is travelling out of the country.

Robyn, check out Overstock.com when you are shopping. They have amazing prices on high dollar items.

How much are you willing to spend? That's also important. You have gotten great suggestions, but you definitely have to spend more money on a Sony or a Canon. And don't be fooled by the prices. I've heard great things about that Kodak easyshare.

Wow. Thanks everyone!

Great ideas. I'm going to be checking around tomorrow. With DD in college and travelling abroad in the spring (all the incidentals) I dont have a huge budget, I'd like to keep it around 200.

Thanks everyone!

Sony DSV1. I just love it. When DH bought it last year it was $300. Now its $200. Well worth the money though. Hav efun looking for cameras. It can be nerve wracking.
