Different TM, different speed?

For those who use TM in the gym, could you let me know your expereience with different brand name TM?

I normally run at my basement. My TM is Reebok. When I ran with itread, I would have hard time to catch joggle speed, anything higher than 5.5, I breath very hard. But recently, I used Precor TM in a gym during weekend while my DD was skating. I was surprised to find out that I had no problem to follow joggler speed. I can do 7.5 in interval run. 6.0 - 6.5 is medium, I can take it for a steady run. My old speed 5.5 is really easy for me. I did not think it was my physical strength got better. Actually I did not work out much for a couple month.

Now I am confused what exactly speed I was running. From my HRM, the different speed in two different brand name TM gave me the same HR.

Thanks

I can't really help you, but I'm LOL b/c the stinking WEIGHTS at the gym don't always weigh the same! Esp. on cable machines.

I don't get why 20 lbs isn't always 20 lbs.

I have found that the nicer treadmills (the ones usually found at high end hotels and gyms) are much easier to run on than my 10 year old Proform treadmill at home.

I think it has to do with the fact that nicer treadmills are studier and the belt runs smoother. You just don't work as hard to run on these, as you do on an older, less sturdy treadmill. I really don't think the actual speed is any different.

I am able to run up to one whole mph faster on a higher end treadmill than my old one at home!

I do notice what seems like speed differences when I run on different treadmills. I also notice that different treadmill brands feel like their inclines are different ( at 0% incline)

Our gym has two different brands, and one at 0% incline actually feels like its is at a 1 or 2% incline, where the other one feels totally flat or like what a 0% incline should be. Personally I prefer the one that feels flat, since I am not a fan of treadmill running as it is. :) Weird, huh?

Ha, now this make me feel better. You got more bang from less bucks since you really need to work harder. Next time, I am running at home, I will try not to pay attention to what speed in my TM.:p

Lynn, I think you are right about incline level. For my own TM, if I went beyond 5.0, then suddenly I need to get it down to 0, my TM would hang up somewhere except 0.:( I think it might happen to your gym TM, too. But if I gradually came down, it will have no problem to come back to 0%.
