Diff in Results Betw Full Pyramids or Up/Down Only Prem...

As always, I'm trying to fit more yoga and Pilates into my rotations. My next rotation includes the Pyramids. For those of you who have done rotations using PUB/PLB in their entirety as well as rotations using the Up or Down Only premixes, was there a difference in your results? As long as you're lifting to failure in the premixes, are the extra sets in the full workouts necessary for maximum strength gains?

I tried the full pyramid and I ended up tired a lot. I cut back to "up" only (but including the floor work and ab work), and got excellent results. I'm sure the full pyramid is great for some people but it was a bit much (both time and fatigue wise) for me.

Thanks for your reply! I've also only done the Up Premix but was wondering if I'm missing out on more serious strength gains. I know that longer isn't always better, but is longer better in this type of workout?

RE: Diff in Results Betw Full Pyramids or Up/Down Only ...

I have always done the full pyramids, am afraid to reduce the workout at all. It seems so effective and so different from the other formats. I'd be interested in someone who has truly done the full and the up/down only long enough to really compare them.

I also do the full pyramid each time, I can't imagine it to be effective with just half of it. The full pyramid for me burns out the muscles. So I too would love to hear from someone who can do the true comparison between the two having done both for some period of time. I too love the full pyramid format and I do go as heavy as possible.

I'm not sure what you are looking for as "truly" did it both ways. I truly did the full pyramid for about 4 weeks then I truly did just the up pyramid for 8+ weeks. I saw good results from both but I was too fatigued with the full version. I'd say if your body can handle the full and you see good results then stick to that. My body responded better overall to the up only.

RE: Diff in Results Betw Full Pyramids or Up/Down Only ...

When I first started, I did the entired pyramid 3 times a week and I saw good results. However, I was fatigue by the end of the sets and could not finish them most of the time. For several months now, I have been using Pyramid down. I read in a magazine a while back that when you want to try lifting heavier that you should start out with that weight and go down. I Therefore, I started using pyramid down. pyramid down. It works for me. I can start with a 15 pound bicep and go down. However, I can never do that with the whole tape. I am seeing good results with just pyramid down. I love this tape.

Hi Affirm, I have only tried the pyramid up and the full pyramid, but thanks for the tip on using the down only, I might give that a try, the dvd's are so great, you have so many options, thanks.

I tried all. Full, Up only and down only. The best result I got was from using the full and next down only. Becasue of this, I tried to fit the full as much possible and when I am not up to it, I use the down. Hope this helped. :)

RE: Diff in Results Betw Full Pyramids or Up/Down Only ...

Hi,

I only do the full version. I have tried the the up and down premixes and just don't feel the effects as the full workout. I like that "chisel" feeling after you have completed the up and begin to go down. I really feel as though I am sculpting and really working that muscle to it's peek. This happens to be one of my favorite weight workouts by Cathe because of the results it gives me. Good Luck!!

RE: Diff in Results Betw Full Pyramids or Up/Down Only ...

Thanks for the replies, everyone! Since I've only done the premixes, I think I'll go for the whole shebang this next rotation. I've been concentrating on strength for the past few months and have two more weeks of Cathe's June rotation. This next rotation will mix strength and endurance workouts. I'll still do some yoga, mostly as a 15 min post-workout stretch, but I'll be able to fit in one "full" power yoga session. I also do abs six days a week. Here's what I plan to do:

SUN: PLB + Abs/Yoga Stretch
MON: PUB/Yoga Stretch
TUE: Imax 1 or 2 + Abs/Yoga Stretch
WED: ME or PH/Yoga Stretch
THU: Off
FRI: BC (or SJP or Bodymax)/Yoga Stretch
SAT: CTX or other short intense cardio + Power Yoga

What do you all think?

I'm just getting the hang of Pilates and hate to give it up, but weights, cardio and yoga are more important to me and I just don't want to work out for hours and hours. Maybe I'll do a few Pilates moves for some of my ab work. My goal for this year was to be able to do a teaser, and I can finally do one, but it's not very pretty!

RE: Diff in Results Betw Full Pyramids or Up/Down Only ...

Okay....just for the fun of it, I'll throw this out at ya.

I like to do the pyramids as follows

ie. #10 bicep 12 reps
#12 bicep 10 reps
#15 bicep 8 reps
then skip a set
then during her last set of 12 I do either #12 db's or I do #20 db's to failure (and as slow as possible) to really burn the muscle.

So I usually only skip the fourth set to give me a brief rest and I vary the last set depending if I want to go for a heavy day or an endurance day. I never drop back to the lowest weight, but you could. You can vary this workout in so many ways. During her tricep session I do dips with my feet on a 6 inch step and with a #25 barbell on my lap and my tri's are burning when I attempt to go to failure. I guess it's just fun working out with the crew, but you can do soooo may different things with PUB :7 :7 :7

Have fun

RE: Diff in Results Betw Full Pyramids or Up/Down Only ...

Sounds interesting, Briee! How long have you been doing this? Have you done the premixes in the past and, if so, have you been doing it this way long enough to compare results?

RE: Diff in Results Betw Full Pyramids or Up/Down Only ...

I don't have IS on DVD yet ;( ;( ;( , so I can't do the premixes - don't know what they are right now. I forgot to add that I pause the tape many times to add in another type of exercise for that body part. ie shoulders...I add in shoulder rows with a heavy barbell and I add in lat pull downs (on my universal machine - in hopes of one day doing pullups) in my back segment.

I can't give you a lot of feedback about staying with this as I adapt REALLY fast to weight workouts and I need to change them up frequently. When I did PUB as is I did okay, but no major DOMS and as I said...I adapted and didn't see major results. Since I've changed it up...I'm sore again and I am building more muscle and getting more defined....it's finally coming...but slow for an ecto.
