Dietary Staples

Do you have a foods or meals you eat most every day? I'd like to hear some ideas.

For example, here are some of mine:

Grapefruit

Plain yogurt with berries, walnuts, wheat germ, and flax seed sweetened with stevia.

Toast with natural peanut butter and small amount of fruit only jam.

Green salad with balsamic vinegar, 1t olive oil, beans (kidney, garbanzo, black), beets, green beans, celery, mixed greens, clementine or apple; and slice of toast with smart balance spread.

And, yes, 1oz dark chocolate (70%).:p

I eat almost the same thing 5 days a week..

nonfat plain greek yogurt with almonds and walnuts mixed in (my favorite)
apple and low fat string cheese
low carb whole wheat pita with spinach, cucumbers, hummus and grilled chicken

Egg whites and cottage cheese are huge staples in my diet also.

Oh and Natraully More PB, I eat it daily with a spoon.

2 boiled eggs almost every morning
1 medium baked potato (plain skin and all) before my martial arts class
non fat yougurt over frozen berries as my dessert or sometimes as my dinner

DH and I eat a lot of the same foods. We don't mind the repetition and it keeps things simple. My staples include:

- walnuts or almonds
- Ezekiel bread (toasted) steel cut oats or Cream of Wheat
- peanut butter
- dark chocolate
- butter
- cheese
- eggs
- navy beans, black beans, chick peas
- salad/raw veggies
- popcorn
- kale

and my current fave snack, Newman's Own mango salsa with Trader Joe's organic unsalted tortilla chips.

My list is similar to Sparrow's plus:

- chicken - usually skinless boneless breast cutlets
- thin cut pork loin chops or tenderloin
- apples, pears, oranges, clementines, and berries of all kinds
- lentils
- canned tomatoes

I like sprouted grain bread and I'm very fortunate to live near a bakery that makes it daily. It's SO MUCH BETTER than Ezekiel, which to me has the taste and texture of cardboard (sorry Sparrow :p). Also, I make big pots of soup every week loaded with vegetables and lentils or beans.

One of my indulgences is a cup of hot cocoa made with organic skim or 2% milk heated with a cinnamon stick or a 1" cube of fresh ginger root, to which I add 2 tsp cocoa, 2 tsp sugar, and a splash of vanilla extract. It's YUMMY and doesn't do a lot of damage. ;)

Put enough butter and peanut butter on it and you don't notice the cardboard aspect. At that point it's merely a conduit for the buttery goodness. :D

I vary what I eat from day to day, but most days, I have:

home-grown sprouts

a green smoothie (usually in the a.m.)

nuts (as butters, pâtés, milks)

Funny you should ask! Tonight we're having our Wednesday night veggie burgers and fries: Morningstar Farm Grillers on Rudy's whole grain English muffins and Alexia-brand oven fries. DH mixes it up a bit, so tonight we're having grilled mushroom & onion & Swiss burgers!

For breakfast I have either oatmeal cooked in almond milk, w/ a teaspoon each of vanilla and maple syrup OR

A Van's or Kashi waffle with two teaspoons of maple syrup and maybe blueberries or strawberries.

I admit, its my favorite subject, the eats.

I had been sort of in a rut, now I eat whatever is in the refrigerator :D

Staples:
Veggies: cabbage, squash, spinach, mushrooms, celery, vine tomatoes, sugar snap peas or pea pods, artichoke hearts
Fruits: apples, lemons, limes, oranges, cuties (aka clementines) or berries (blue preferred but lately they come with mold, yuck:()
some sort of GF cracker or pretzels like Wylde brand.
Nuts: walnuts, almonds, almond butter, natural PB.
plain yogurt either Mountain High or Nancy's low fat. I would buy high fat, she doesn't sell that kind at Raley's.
butter, coconut oil, and olive oil from Trader Joe's
eggs, Coconut milk
GF cereal like Enviro kids, just 1/3 cup at a time mixed into my Arrowhead puffed millet.
Whatever meat was on sale either chicken, pork or beef. I'm not real turned on by it right now.
