Hi all,
l need your advise, l am thinking of using diet pill to aid my weight loss and l saw this two advertised in the fitness magazine, Diet fuel and Xenadrine. Has anyone tried this pills? Does it works?. If this are not good can anyone suggest a good diet aid please.
Thanks all

Hi

I agree with Bootyquake the other thing is if you read the advert check the small print, there was also a thread here about Hydroxcut.

My view is there are no short cuts and most pills can be harmful, even lethal.

Steer clear.

With the pill comes a diet plan & a help network. They have a website, xenical.com (i think) & their phone #888-265-1016. This pill does not harm you. The pills you mentioned can be very dangerous, even cause death in some cases. Remember, there is no magic pill to lose weight, if there were we would all take them!! karen

RE: Diet pills: avoid like the plague

I've said it before and I'll say it again: there are no shortcuts to fitness and fat loss but there are many many potholes, and diet pills, prescription or over-the-counter, are about the biggest pothole there is (aside from the Low Carb Diet myths). Ephedra-based products are especially suspicious, in my book, and most over-the-counter products wire you out, whack out your mood and your energy level, and create an unbelievable crash when you go off them.

The only "diet aid" you should be considering is re-evaluating your current workout and clean-eating program, and making adjustments there. Diet pills don't work. Period.

I wouldn't take the diet pills containing ephedra or ma-huang.
Here is an excerpt of an article I wrote about it. In the article I don't specifically condemn use of fat-burners, but I really don't recommend them.

Should You Use a Fat Burner Containing Ephedra?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ephedra (also known as ma huang) is used in most fat-
burning supplements, usually in conjunction with
caffeine. These supplements are wildly popular due to
their ability to increase energy and decrease appetite.
Many people have lost weight while taking these
supplements (name brands include Ripped Fuel, Diet
Fuel, Xenedrine, and Hydroxycut), but are they safe to
use? The FDA currently has on record 80 deaths and
over 1400 adverse effect reports. Adverse effects
include seizures, dizziness, vomiting, tremors, stroke
and myocardial infarction. Fat burners also are
addictive to some people. People become accustomed
to the increased energy level ephedra brings, and when
the stimulant has exited the system they feel more
lethargic than before they ever took the supplement, so
they pop another pill, and so on.
Whether or not these fat burners even really "burn fat"
is debatable. What these supplements do is give the
increased energy that you would find with drinking
multiple cups of coffee, thus helping many people
achieve better workouts. They also effectively
decrease appetite in many people (but often not
without a woozy stomach). These two components, I
believe, are what cause the fat loss that people
experience while taking these products.
The standard recommendation of daily use is 24mg of
ephedra per day. This is generally the equivalent of
one to three pills, depending on the brand. The
instructions on the bottles of the supplements,
however, suggest taking three times that amount!
Due to the adverse effects associated with ephedra-
containing products, it would be wise to avoid use of
them. If you do decide to try these supplements, start
slow, with one pill a day to make sure you do not react
adversely to them.
DON'T DO IT, DON'T DO IT, DON'T DO IT
LAST EDITED ON Oct-01-02 AT 12:49PM (Est)[p]If the ephedra doesn't kill you, you could end up with kidney damage & you would wish you were dead!
The advice about the presciption pill isn't bad, if you body mass index of 30 or more. I couldn't resist pasting the "Important Safety Information for you....
"Contraindications/Warnings/Precautions
XENICAL shouldn’t be taken if you are pregnant, nursing, have food absorption problems or reduced bile flow. If you are taking cyclosporine, speak to your doctor before taking XENICAL. XENICAL reduces the absorption of vitamins, therefore, a daily multivitamin is recommended.
Side Effects
Because XENICAL works by blocking the absorption of dietary fat, it is likely that you will experience some changes in bowel habits. These bowel changes are a natural effect of blocking the fat from being absorbed. They generally occur during the first weeks of treatment; however, for some people they may continue for 6 months or longer while on XENICAL. These changes may include gas with oily discharge, an increased number of bowel movements, an urgent need to have them, and an inability to control them, particularly after meals containing higher amounts of fat than are recommended.
Following a healthy eating plan, such as the one developed by the American Heart Association, will help you lose weight while decreasing some of the possible gastrointestinal effects you may experience while taking XENICAL."
With possible side effects like these, I'd rather be fat (at a 30 BMI, I would be fat!). Can you imagine sitting at work & suddenly having to pass gas with oily discharge? EEEEEWWWWWW!!!! Ok, I know too much information!
So, isn't it interesting that even a prescription pill suggests a health eating plan to help you lose weight. I say that is the best advice anyone can give.
Oh, and of course, DO CATHE tapes!
RE: DON'T DO IT, DON'T DO IT, DON'T DO IT
I agree with the naysayers. Don't use those pills; they can be dangerous and fit and helathy is the way to go. There are no short cuts or magics bullets. Exercise and a healthy diet is the way to go!
