Did Slumdog deserve best picture??

Anyone see it? I saw Benjamin Button and loved it. Was hoping it would win. I never watch the Oscars but did this year. I never saw Slumdog but when they showed clips during the Oscars, it looked like a home video to me. Just being honest.
Was it even in English? What are your thoughts?

Yes, it's in English. I can't say whether or not it deserved the Best Picture Oscar, as I didn't see its four competitors. I will say that I thought "Slumdog Millionaire" was a good movie, not a great one. Very original concept, beautiful cinemetography (sp?), great music, and the actors were all very good. However, I had a few problems with the plot and I guessed the final "Millionaire" question within the 1st 15 min. of the film. But it was a good movie and I think Danny Boyle did a fine job directing it.

I'm sure much of it was in English (English is spoken in India, along with the native langs). There are probably parts that are subtitled too. I didn't see it, but I plan to. Why does the language issue matter to you? I don't see it as being relevant to the quality of a film.

This is why I don't watch the Oscars. Every movie that wins is something I've never heard of. I hate that.

I'm glad Heath Ledger won for Best Supporting Actor, though!

I didn't say being in English was an issue. Man, that is why I never post anymore. You can't say ANYTHING on these boards anymore. Good grief. I was just asking a question since I heard it was an Indian movie. SOOOOOORRRRRY.

And I'm just the opposite; they're usually the only ones I want to see!:D (except that awful Titanic years ago....I still can't believe that thing won for best movie.)

I just asked why the language of the movie mattered to you, since you brought it up in the first place. If it really doesn't matter and I misunderstood you, you can just say so. Why be so defensive and sarcastic?

why be sorry

Post what you want and ignore.

I won't watch a movie with subtitles in another language..I am american and speak english. If i was french i would probably watch french movies and understand it.. I am not..Well i am part french, but never learned the language..
Didn't see it, but i heard it was ok. I did hear Benjamin Button was really good.
Usually if they are rated that high i hate them..
When the critics say 10 i usually stay away..

Now give me a WOLVERINE and i am a watchin...

In other words. EVERYONE is entitled to their own opinion.

Probably because I am nine months pregnant and frustrated. Also, because I mean no harm but have always been an easy target my whole life. It is more my issue than anyone else's. I just didn't mean anything negative about the language. My DH mentioned that he thought it was all subtitled or something and I wanted to know.

Actually, the subtitles would be in English, so you'd have no trouble reading them.

No need to apologize. I have been put on near bedrest (but not literally) and haven't worked out in awhile per dr's orders. no endorphins left in me. I am a personal trainer and can't work out or work with clients. So, yes, I am pretty down in the dumps. I can cry at the drop of a hat.

Understood. I didn't know you were so far along! Good luck--you're in the home stretch.

I try and stay away from the "critically acclaimed" Oscar front-runners because I find most of them a snooze-fest. Give me some "Happy Gilmore" any day:eek:!

Haven't seen any of the Oscars yet--probably won't until they're released on DVD. But I heard Slumdog is a blast so I'll def. be renting it.

I thought the Titanic was pretty good. Certainly worlds better than an obese drag queen eating dog poo.

LOL Laura! Us fans of John Waters will never be able to win over the others. And Titanic was SUCH a cheesefest to me. Though it did have some good actors in it.

I saw it and it is a sweet uplifting movie. As a previous poster said the cinematography is amazing. The first part is sub-titled. The director wanted to do the whole movie in English but the children who played the young characters were struggling with it too much. I'm not surprised it won, although I don't really thing it's a great movie, it is a perfect recession era film. Kind of like Seabiscuit was a perfect horse for his times. It's about the underdog making it to the top.
