DH wants to go Cathe!

Hello, again everyone!

My DH has been watching me get up every morning (well, ALMOST every morning - LOL) to do my Cathe workouts. He has been unoffically doing the WW points thing with me and is interested in getting some upper body fitness now that he is losing some weight. In other words, he wants to buff up his upper bod!

He has been doing the weights sequence from BodyMax, but as I have just recently learned from this forum, the BodyMax weight section might not be what he needs as it is pretty fast and the weights aren't too heavy.

So, should he be doing the Slow and Heavy series or the Pure Strength series? (Or should I just go ahead and get them all - haha!) Can these tapes really get him the upper body he is looking for? He doesn't want muscles popping out everywhere in an exaggerated way, but he does want to look more muscular.

If we should get one series or the other, should he do them in rotation, one tape every other day? He bikes for miles and miles at least 3-4 times per week, depending on the weather.

Also, I should mention, he is not very coordinated. I mean, he's no klutz, but he can't follow anything too complicated.

Of course, this is a bonus for me because I get to use the tapes too!

Thanks again!

Good for him & you!

Debbie H.'s DH has been working out with her so she'll probably share what he's enjoying, & maybe Kim will weigh in too, her sweety liked Slow & Heavy.

I recommend the PS workouts for your guy, with some Slow & Heavy weeks occasionally. Bodymax might be too quick & light (though I use it when I'm riding a lot & maintaining upper body strength). When using split routines "in season", I only use them once per week.

Your guy will be your slave if you can get him into doing consistent ab & lower back work. He may think you & Cathe are witches at first. It really pays off on long rides & especially climbing. The S&H tapes have some great plank work. The traditional ab work is efficient & effective. Cathe sneaks in core stabilization work throughout the S&H workouts.

This winter, get him doing weight work for the legs. He'll be rewarded next spring.

CTX upper seems like it will also be a welcome addition- I mean he can't just do one workout over and over.

But how about MIS and Power hour? I would think you'd start with MIS- but Power hour has no step warmup so it might be even more perfect for your DH. The reps vary between fast and slow and everything in between, and it's total body.

I motion for, second, and vote for Power hour.

Debra and Connie -

Thanks for the info, ladies.

DH is so cute - he just came in from visiting his folks and wanted to know if anyone had posted for him yet!

Can't wait to get him started (and get myself some more Cathe tapes!)!

Again, thanks for you suggestions.

I'm hoping my dh will start working out with me too. He's in the military and stationed aboard a ship. He's been gone since June but he's told me he's started working out while he's been out this time. I'm so proud of him. I told him I'm hoping he'll want to do a Cathe with me when he gets back. I don't think he'll like S/H too much since it really moves slow. I love it myself. I'm going to see if Power Hour or MIS might work better for him.

Susan!

Of course, GET THEM ALL!;-) I would highly recommend the PS Series & S&H. Oh wait, PowerHour too!!! It is soo hard to limit them. Keep in mind if you get just the S&H Series, that it should only be done approximately 3 weeks at a time. My DH has liked all the series. He liked CTX too. MIS is still in the air because of the warm-up on the step. Let's just put it this way, I can't watch him! Oh boy! Too, too funny, but he sure is TRYING! I would say out of all the series, S&H, PS & Powerhour seem to be his favorites. He has been working out with me for about 4 months now and is starting to see some definition and mass too. He has lost inches in his stomach! He cannot lift REAL heavy due to a bad back and a bad knee, but he is truly starting to feel stronger in both those areas. He has increased his weights gradually. He does not want to look like Arnold S.(can't spell his last name!) Another benefit is that his sugar level has come down 100 points! A VERY good thing. (He's diabetic) I know I haven't helped you much, other then to say buy ALL the tapes. Consider them a gift to you both. I have thoroughly enjoyed my hubby joining me! Let us know what you decided.

RE: Susan!

Debbie H.:

Yes, thanks again for the encouragement!

I have CTX and PH both, plus CircuitMax and BodyMax. Really the only thing I don't have are the SH tapes and the PS tapes. I have most of the step tapes, save a one or two.

I'm glad to hear my hubby's not the only one who is a little challenged, shall we say, in the coordination department. Example - you know how you stretch your triceps by reaching up, bending your elbow, and then pull the elbow with the opposite hand? I had to leave the room the other day because DH was so spazzy trying this stretch, I thought he was going to smack himself! I didn't want him to see me laughing. But yes, he's trying! It was really one of those "you had to see it" moments, but I hope you can imagine how amusing he looked.

Anyway, payday is on Friday. If you're reading this Cathe, I plan to make a contribution to your children's college fund by way of more tapes very soon! LOL

RE: Susan!

Could he warm up on the treadmill while you're doing the step warmup? Just an idea. Then he could do the stretches with you.

RE: Susan!

Honeybunch,

Well, we don't have a treadmill, but I think that's a great idea anyway. Definitely something to think about for the future.

Also, we don't really have enough room to exercise at the same time in our living room. We live in a smallish townhouse - those of you who live in the MD-DC area will know what I'm talking about. ;)

I would like to work out with him at the same time, but right now we have to take turns. Since it's the summer and I'm only teaching half day summer school, I do my workouts in the morning and he does his weight lifiting in the evening.

Thanks for your suggestions!

RE: Susan!

I was actually referring to Deb H because I know she has a treadmill, sorry.

Susan, at least he's doing it and is interested in something YOU like to do. Lots of women would love that. You could still have pushup contests, or something like that together. You can do that anywhere.

Hey, HB!

Actually, I WANT him to keep trying even though I CAN'T watch! I'm hoping he finally gets it and then we can incorporate some step, like BodyMax since it has a great upper body segment. I really don't ever see him doing the cardio step tapes, but hey, I can dream, can't I? Thanks for the tip though. Are you still "Rocking" w/Jake?
