Desperate Housewives-Promotional teaser

Chalk this one up as TOTALLY RIDICULOUS

Cheerleaders in skimpy outfits are OK, but a promotional teaser involving a black footballer and a blonde star of the hotest show on US television is out of bounds.

The ABC network owned by Disney company, came to this conclusion after airing a pre-game skit in which Nicolette Sheridan seduces Terrell Owens by dropping the towel she is wearing. As the complaints rolled in, ABC apologised and agreed that the locker room scene was "inappropriate"
Janet Jackson and her visible breast at the Super Bowl has changed the broadcasting rules.

Owens doesnt understand what the fuss is about. "this is the kind of thing we see everyday in soap operas. They sell products like milk with this kind of stuff"
He might also wonder if the reaction would have been different had Sheridan been making bedroom eyes at a white player!

Any thoughts people?

i thought it was very creative....considering how popular desperate housewives is right now!!! i loved it!}(

I LOVED IT!!! I thought it was very funny. I don't have any little ones in my house, so that didn't bother me. I also agree, we see a WHOLE lot more when the Victoria Secrets commercials come on!!!

:7 :7

take care:)

In my opinion ABC new exactly what they were doing. They know how sensitive things are now since the Janet Jackson thing. They would of never of done this without a lot of thought. This was calculated. Sure they come out and apologize, that was their plan from the get go. They want to create a buzz. They want everybody to start talking about Desperate Housewives and Monday night football to increase ratings.

I am not offended by this. Younger kids do watch Monday night football though and it is aired much earlier on the West coast. I could understand if some parents weren't thrilled with it.

Do any of you have children?????????????

My nine year old son was watching MNF like he does every week. I have never had to censor it.

This past week I wish I could have. The fact we had no warning just pi$$es me off to no end. Next it will be 8 pm and then 7 pm. And how about the CST, MST, PST kids???

I am NOT a prude but I should choose what my child views and this choice was not available.

Think about it.

Hey at least Nicolette Sheridan understands it isn't her acting people want to see. LOL!!
I do understand the fuss from people who were offended. When you tune into MNF you do not expect to see that kind of stuff. That's the difference for me. If I watch that "Desperate" show, I expect it and know what I am getting. I sure am not tuning in to see great acting.
ABC screwed up again...purposely of course.
People who made this thing racial......get a life and stop pulling that old tired card for every damn thing that happens in this world!
As for Terrell Owens, he's a horse's ass who's eventually going to get a leg broken by some pissed off players, but he markets himself well. He knew exactly what he was doing. In football, it's tough because players don't do well marketing themselves individually when compared to other sports, like the NBA for instance. Players wear helmets, therefore are not as recognizable to the public, and the NFL likes and wants a "team before me concept".
Of course, I am still waiting for tough guy Owens to do something against a good team. My Steelers beat his little ass! LOL!! Just a sidebar I had to add!
Comparing that promo to the cheerleaders is pulling at straws IMHO. I've never seen a cheerleader throw off a towel and reveal nothing underneath but her bare assets. One team, my Steelers, have NO cheerleaders and they seem to draw plenty of interest. I doubt many would miss 'em if we got rid of them.
GOOOOO STEELERS!!!

I think it's completely idiotic. Now, I absolutely don't think that the Janet Jackson thing was appropriate - accident or not. Of course, my child is a girl and I really have no problem with her seeing naked women. I do, however, have a problem with anything that is exploitative of women (remember that beer commercial with the girls mud-wrestling in their bikinis? Those are offensive to me).

I don't know if there would have been a different reaction if they had used a white football player. I have difficulty understanding the way some other people think and interracial attraction is not something that offends me. I happen to think Michael Jordan is one of the most beautiful men I've ever seen! And if he were single and I was single (and at least a foot taller), I'd date him - even without all the money.

I really don't appreciate the direction that this country seems to be headed where people are trying to impose their morals on the rest of us.

Don Imus talked about this on his show this week. Though I don't want to see broadcast TV get any worse, I have trouble swallowing the hypocrisy of the situation.

"Adult entertainment" is a 55 BILLION dollar industry. At $55B thats either a lot of people using the product or the isolated perverts are spending a lot of money.

Are these moral upstanding people leading two lives?

Again, the issue is what you expect to see when you turn something on. You're comparing apples and oranges.

True. I gave up on broadcast TV professional sports a long time ago so I am a little biased. Nothing like watching baseball players spit tobacco, basketball players beat up fans or hockey (remember that sport?) players try to hurt each other. Much rather take in college or high school game.

I just have trouble with the crap everyone is raising about it. You have the ultimate power, turn the box off. You can even be militant about it, watch it and write to all of the advertisers telling them how disappointed you are.
Dave

I'm starting to give up on it for other reasons. Pro sports used to be fast paced and rewarded only good teams/individuals. Leagues have too many teams and the talent is diluted.
In basketball, Shaq O'Neil is supposedly the best player, yet he cannot shoot or hit foul shots to save his life. He just bowls people over and slam dunks. It's not good fundamental basketball. It stinks.
Hockey---I don't even think you need to have a winning record to make their playoffs.
Ever see a baseball game these days? It bores the hell out of me. It's not played the way it's meant to be played. Games take 4 hours to complete when they should take 2 to 2.5 hrs. Everyone stands around mostly, and what little action there is usually involves someone jacking a ball 500 feet out of the park. Woohoo. What fun!
Football -- there are like 3 teams in the NFL who are good on both sides of the ball. Everyone else is one-dimensional at best.
Nowadays you have mediocrity everywhere. You have wildcard teams(see mediocre) winning Super Bowls and World Series, and car drivers like Kurt Busch yesterday. He basically had a good 10 race streak out of a 36 race season and he gets to call himself champion. Again, another league(NASCAR) that modifies their system to reward mediocrity.
I'm a Jeff Gordon fan(the real season champion) so excuse me blowing off some steam here....LOL!!!
One thing won't change......the siphoning of money from our pockets to back this stuff.
As for the MNF thing, you CAN turn the channel. But again, I think it's about what you expect to see. It's too late to turn the channel when the little pre-game blurb has already played for a few secs. before you can change it....not expecting to see Nicollette Sheridan(sp?) do what she does best...take off her clothes.
