Depo-Provera & weight gain

Is anyone taking or has anyone taken Depo-Provera? I'm curious to know if you had any weight gain from it. If so, how much and how long were you on it? I've been on it for a little over a year now and have noticed some weight gain. Is this common???

I had weight gain with Depo too -- it's common and its in the list of side effects I thought too. I was on it for over a year until a bad reaction with someone else made it ineffective. I think I gained 5-10lbs in the one year which was a little more than I think what is expected but I don't know how much that also attributed to my activity and eating habits that year.

I used Depo for 18 months, years ago, I didn't gain wt. However, it was one of the most common complaints/side effects reported by my family planning clients when I was practicing. I was unable to open the consumer websites but found the prescribing info for Depo subQ Provera 104 and Depo Provera, which discuss the stats on wt. gain w/ these contraceptives.

Before I went on it I read all these horror stories about how much women were gaining with this. I was already overweight and it freaked me out. I decided to really watch my diet and workout and I actually lost weight. I was a size 12 at the time and now I am a 4. I know everyone is different but this was my experience.

I was on it for a few years, and although I didn't specifically gain weight, it did stop me from losing weight. When I started taking it, I was already overweight. I cleaned up my diet and started working out with Cathe 6 days a week (I had already been working out regularly, but with videos not as intense), and lost nothing for months. After talking with my doctor, we agreed that the Depo shots might be interfering with weight loss, so I went off it. Without making any more changes to diet or workout routine, I dropped about 20 pounds in 3 months. So I think it definitely interfered.

Also, the shots are associated with bone loss, even in young women. Many women in their 20's and 30's (myself included) have now been diagnosed with osteopenia, all due to the shots. Although I loved not having periods, I am so sorry I ever did Depo -- it really wreaked havoc on my body.

I was on it for a short time about 12 years ago. I don't remember if I gained weight or not but I was the biggest b*tch walking the earth while I was taking it and I lost my sex drive.

NEVER AGAIN!

That was me, but I also gained 20 lbs! It was one of the worst mistakes I've ever made.

Try the Mirena IUD! It's the best!
