Decorativehardwarestore.com--what a nightmare!

I purchased switchplates & outlet covers from them more than a month ago. First off, it took about 2 weeks for the items to arrive, even though the charge hit my debit card the same day.

So when I get them, I put up 3 of the switchplates to see if they matched the rest of my new decor. They didn't. So this company has this nightmare return policy where you have to email them & request a return number. It took 3 days to get the RA number.

I sent them back 2 weeks ago. I called them today to find out when I'd get my credit. The guy informs me I didn't pack the switchplates correctly & they're scratched so I would not be receiving credit for them. WTH? Those things were very well packed & cushioned........and I suspect even if there is damage they'll just buff them & re-sell them........then of course there's a 15% restocking fee, not to mention an $8 charge for shipping, which was for the original order--they offer free shipping but who would realize if you returned the stuff you'd have to pay for the shipping on the original order?

Bottom line, I'm getting a $42 credit for a $105 order. Is this unbelievable or what? DO NOT EVER buy from these people. They will rob you blind........

Lessons learned: always check return policies when you purchase online. And do not purchase from an unknown company. Stick w/Zappo's, J Crew, Banana Republic, etc. These online boutique stores suck. x(

Laura,

I agree with Anne, don't let them get away with it. Tell them you'll call the BBB, Attorney General Consumer Complaints and your credit card company.

I guess you are stuck with the 15 % restocking fee and the shipping, BUT, they can't charge you for the 3 switch plates without sending proof that they were damaged by you. If they indeed were (which I doubt), they should have notified you immediately and not two weeks later after you call them. They'll have a hard time proofing you damaged it and it wasn't them who damaged it after they received it. On top of it, they can't just charge you for them and then keep them!

Did you send it back with delivery confirmation?

Some companies are just unbelievable!!! But they are soooo stupid, instead of maybe taking a loss (if it is a loss) of $ 30 and keeping a customer happy, they just lost way more than $ 30 because of one unhappy customer. You know how that goes, one person tells ten others and those ten tell ten of their friends ......

By the way, how is Cosmo?

Carola

Thanks guys, I have filed w/the BBB. This is just ridiculous. I'm getting a refund of less than half what the order cost. x(

Carola, Cosmo is hanging in there, thanks for asking. She now takes 14 pills a day b/c I've started giving her some homeo stuff too (glucosamine, vitamin E & MSM). She's not doing great though. Once this stuff starts it happens so quickly--she's limping & still having trouble standing/staying up. The vet & I talked last week & decided once she can't move on her own anymore it'll be time.

But she's still happy & playful, & there's spirit in her eyes......here's hoping natural remedies do the trick........

Unfortunately it was my debit card, so I can't dispute it. :-( BBB is my only recourse. I have a feeling I'm not gonna get anywhere w/this, except having the pleasure of knowing they're now on the BBB's list.

HOw about hydrotherapy (take her in a lake or pool and let her tread water to exercise her muscles without straining her joints).

I'm going through the same 'body is going to pot, but spirit is still strong' thing with one of my cats, so I know what you mean.

Awww poor Kathryn, poor Kathryn's kitty, isn't it hard to watch your baby near her end? It is really the hardest thing I've gone through in my entire life. My last dog passed peacefully in his sleep so I didn't have to watch him go through all this--and poor Cosmo is always mad at me for shoving pills down her throat........the only advantage I have here is knowing she won't be around for much longer so I can shower her w/the love and affection she's earned for being by my side for so long.....

Anyway, the hydrotherapy sounds like a good idea except Cosmo is such a 'fraidy-cat (no offense intended) she freaks out when she gets near a half-filled bath tub. :p

You were lucky.
When I was growing up, all our family pets died in their sleep.

I was hoping that would happen when I had cats of my own, but so far, I've had to 'pull the plug' on 4. I hate having to make the choice (and worrying that it made it too late or too early!), and it never gets easier.

I was hoping my boy Scooter would just not wake up some day, since he's diabetic, and it can affect the heart, but the vet says his heart is really strong (it's true literaly and figuratively!).

At least I have 4 more to keep me company when he has to leave us.

Depending on your bank, you may be able to dispute it even if it's a debit card. Are you sure your debit card doesn't have a visa logo on it, it looks like they only accept credit cards.

Call your bank, mine helped me in a similar situation and I only had a debit card back then.

Good luck!

Carola

Carola! I called my bank & they're issuing a "provisional credit" until this is cleared up......thanks so much for the advice! I never would've thought of it since I figured the debit card was like cash, but I do have recourse after all......thanks again!

Aren't these the same switchplate and outlet covers that you were so looking forward to? How very disappointing. Very sorry :(.

Your debt card is a visa....or MC.
You can disputer it the same as on a credit card. Call your bank.
Mine has a guarantee with it on the business.......
The bank will ask for verification that it was sent back and you will loose the restocking fee, but they will file a charge back.
I don't take being ripped off. I do it.
