Deadlift substitution?

Cathe, I have spondylolisthesis, previous bulging discs, and sit at work all day. I was just in for a well check today and asked if I can do dead lifts, doc said no.......What exercise could I substitute for dead lifts? Anyone else have any advice? tia......

good mornings? Basically putting a barbell on your shoulders and then bending forward. Or a bent leg deadlift. I'll post links when I'm at my computer.

Something else to keep in mind is that it is quite possible that your doc is talking about traditional DLs which is just that dead lifting a weight from the floor. That is a no no for me, because of back surgery, but I can do the style that Cathe does in many of her workouts. I just have to be very careful with the amt of weight I use and also be sure to focus on using the legs and glutes to lift and not the back. I hope this makes sense.
