.... she charge? She's watching 3 kids, the youngest is a pre-schooler. I was thinking in the $8 - 10 range. BTW, we're in the NYC suburbs.

Has she ever babysat before? How old is your daughter? Are the parents at work or going out at night? Is she expected to get them into bed? Change diapers?

Does your daughter have any certifications like first aid or anything?

I think I started babysitting at $7-8/hour 20 years ago, and I had taken a class at the community center that included how to babysit and first aid.

LOL, I'm asking such official questions and we're talking about BABYSITTING!! :) Then again, it was a pretty long career for me... :p

ETA: I'd say $10 to start out with.

I have 2 kids (8 year old twins) and I generally pay 8-10 per hour. When I ask sitters their rate, I don't get a straight answer. When I had a Nanny, she would charge me $10 per hour for babysitting (beyond our normal day), so that's been the number I tend to use. That was 6 years ago, so her rate may have gone up since then, but I considered her a "professional". I live in the Atlanta suburbs.

I'd say $8-10 is a good range for 3 kids, including a preschooler. That's about what my daughter charges for most families, and her "clients" include a set of 3-year-old twins, and a family with 4 kids (ages 10 to 1 -- that mom often pays a "bonus" on top of her hourly rate). She's almost 17, and we're in a smaller town in Indiana...
