Day off included in rotations?

SRP

Cathlete
Hi - I've been sort of exploring the rotation forum and have found that I "sort of" have one going, but not anything like is mentioned here.

First, I have a question - do most of you work out full blast seven days a week, or do these rotations include a day off? I used to take a day off, but this year I decided to up it to a full week - assuming errands after work don't bite into my time.

Right now, all I do is alternate days between step and weights. I don't use any weight videos. I use a weight bench we've had for years, along with some free weights, and just do my own thing. I concentrate my major aerobic sessions on Saturday and Sunday, since I have time for the longer workouts then. On Tuesdays I do an hour aerobic session, and on Thursdays I do a half hour plus stretches. MWF are for weights.

Also, I do alternate between aerobic instructors, meaning I use Cathe and Charlene Prickett. Charelene's cardio doesn't touch what Cathe gives, especially in her IMAX series, but some of her tapes are pretty good. One thing is that she uses a lot of high leg lifts without propulsion, so you have to use leg muscle to get them up there. It's a change.

My problem is coming up with a totally different type of cardio. I know you're not supposed to focus solely on step. I have a few low impact by Charlene, but I only use them if I'm feeling lazy. I used to run but had to stop due to knee problems.

How intense are Cathe's kickbox routines? Her newest one (sorry - can't remember the name) sounds interesting. I don't have a DVD player, but might get one if the routine is highly recommended. Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Shannon

Hi Shannon,

Part of a good rotation is planning adequate rest. Adequate rest allows your body time to repair and build. You also want to adjust your workouts to avoid overtraining and overuse injuries. Alternating intensity is also a better long term option for your body. I would suggest putting in a rest day in your rotation in order to get the most out of your fitness program.

I like Cathe's KB workouts but I also use other instructors. Walking is always a good alternative that dosen't require equipment.
