Darnit, I just had a spur of the moment

job interview, this guy called me at 12:25 & asked me to meet him for lunch at 12:30. No biggie--the restaurant is right across the street.

So I've been in touch w/these people for at least a year now & already turned down one offer from them. Now he's offering me a position at about $6k less than what I'm now making. Do I have stupid stamped on my forehead or something?

The job is in the development office at a university. So he's desperately trying to talk me into it--like, "you can take classes for free," "we have a really good retirement plan," yadda yadda yadda. But to me all that stuff just isn't worth a cut in my net pay. Man I hate wasting my time on this type of thing.

Do you think you could express that to him? The job I currently have said something to the effect of having great health benefits. Well, I don’t need for them to cover my insurance through I go through husbands company ~ I'd rather earn more. So, I get compensated for the same dollar amount that is paid for each employee as a lump sum in each paycheck.

I told him--the thing is right now I work for the govmt & their benefits package is pretty tough to beat. The only thing they've got that's better, other than the free classes, is the time off. It's a Catholic university (hear that Candi? :7 ) so I'd have a week off at Xmas & Easter in addition to the usual vacation time. Still not enough to take a cut in pay.

Is the job closer to your home than your current job? Maybe if it's closer you'd save $ on gas, car maintenance, etc? What about paid vacation/sick/personal days? The Gov. is probably pretty good about those perks. Is there room to be promoted / receive raises in your current job vs. the Univ. job? I suppose you've though all this through but some people just look at the bottom line and don't consider the little things.

No--my current job is two blocks away, this one is about 4. :p

Vacation/sick is about the same. There is most definitely more room for advancement at the university. But still......I have a mortgage to pay & just can't justify bringing home less money, even if it was only temporary.

Maximus,

I do believe you are talking about my ex-university SHU lol. The development office is in one of the older buildings anyway lolol.
