Darned P90X infomercials

Gosh darn it... this is like the 5th time I've watched this infomercial and my curiosity is just nagging at me. I did see part of one of the DVD's and wasn't in love with Tony. I realize this question has been asked a zillion times... but please give me some feedback.

Thanks.

I don't have any insight on P90X for you, but I just ordered Insanity and can't wait to get it! I was trying to decide between the two and watched some YouTube videos to make up my mind! I would think that if the program is good and you get good input from those who have used it, it would be easy to tune out the instructor and just work out.

Good luck making a decision!

I've been waffling on P90X as well. I've been thru STS 3 times now, and expect to start it again for New Year's 2011. My understanding of P90X is that it's the same work out over and over and over (there's only a few DVD's) and it's heavy on the pull ups.

STS has repeat exercises and footage, yes, but it's not the same DVDs every week.

Is it that different/special that I need it and STS?

What's weird (in my mind, anyhow) is that people will ask me if I've done P90X, and when I tell them no, but I've done STS, they look at me like I have 6 heads and then I have to explain. They don't get it. But they "get" P90X because they've seen it on TV.

I have done it 4 times. I really did liked it...a lot. I got great results too. I liked Tony too, I know some people found him to be annoying. I did not, I actually liked that he was himself, a bit goofy at times, but gave great pointers too. The weighted/resistance workouts were, I found, cardiovascular too. He moves pretty quick through the moves, so your heart is beating fast. His Plyometric workout is really hard, but it goes by quick and it is effective. Ever since I did my first round, I have gotten PRs in nearly every race that I ran. I think it was due to Plyo. My other favorite workout from the series is Core Synergistics, lots of fun, and I love anything that really focuses on the core.

I think it is different from STS in a way (I have only done STS once). Month 1, you do the same 6 workouts for 3 weeks, followed by a Recovery week. The Recovery week involves, Yoga, stretching, Kempo, and Core Synergistics. Month 2 involves 2 new resistance workouts, but the Leg workout is the same throughout the whole 90 days (which is the one negative I have). No one works legs better than Cathe. Month 3 is stwitching month1 and month 2 for 4 weeks, following up with a recovery week. If you want your push-up and pull-up numbers to go up, P90X will help with that, no doubt.

I am thinking of doing an STS/P90X rotation....alternating each month, but not doing Meso 3.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask me.

I love those infomercials! I watch it on weekend mornings to get motivated to go do my workout :D.

I have no doubt P90X is a fantastic program and completely worth the price, but I did have a chance to borrow it, I only tried out a couple of the workouts, but they just did not click with me. Mainly because I could feel the workouts would very quickly have that dreaded "dread factor" for me, and partly because I was not a fan of Tony's personality in the dvds, and just couldn't move past it.

STS is way better

I did both. I reach for STS DVDs over and over again. P90X is way, way repetitive. I have not had the desire to do it again. STS is so much better. And I didn't mind Tony either.

I totally agree. If I had STS before P90X, I would have never purchased it.

I had P90X - found it very repetitive. The Kenpo is way easy - KPC blows it out of the water! I also have STS. I prefer STS in every way - instructor, style, variety. P90X workouts consist of a few moves repeated over and over, with slight variations - i.e. a few hundred push-ups and pull-ups - congrats, you're done. Very few other moves - where STS hits the muscles from every possible angle, changes the order of the exercise, adds new ones in - it's a different workout every time. True muscle confusion. If I had to choose, I'd go STS every time.

I can't compare the X to STS because I haven't done STS yet but I did do the X and got excellent results. It IS very repetative and the cardio isn't all that great (I subbed other stuff in tho!) but the weight work outs kick arse!

That's what makes infomercials so successful, but the products rarely measure up. I had an Ab-Flex once. LOL - what a piece of junk. And the Sham-Wow? please... I've decided against P90X because of the feedback here saying STS is better. It's a lot of money, and STS was expensive enough.

I'm cutting and pasting this from another thread about P90X, below is what I wrote. I would also add that the repetiveness of P90X was the main reason I got bored, and that I'm getting STS for my birthday later this month and I can't wait!!!

"I haven't done STS so I can't compare the two. I started P90X last year, and got bored six weeks into it. I was getting good results, but I wasn't looking forward to working out. Also, I wanted more lower body emphasis, and all the emphasis on pull-ups tweaked my shoulder. Btw, I like Tony and I think he's funny, but after doing the same dvd's week after week, the jokes started to get on my nerves.

I started to look for other workouts to substitute for P90X, and that's how I discovered Cathe. For the past seven months, I've done mostly Cathe dvd's (no P90X), but like I said, no STS -- yet. I'm never bored, and I plan rotations so I don't use the same dvd's too often, so I'm always looking forward to my workouts.

edited to add: I also didn't appreciate how Tony and his crew were pushing the beachbody recovery drinks and other products during every workout. Annoying!"

I did P90X prior to STS. The program is effective and really helped me get ready for STS. But I simply couldn't stand to do it again--in whole or in part. I like that Tony is real and kind-of goofy, but he drove me crazy after a while. I did the entire program, but it got REALLY boring. I couldn't wait to be done. The cardio is too easy and not enjoyable--I subbed running or Cathe's cardio. I don't think Tony's form was very good on many exercises. I also don't like the style of workout where the instructor does a couple reps and then walks around "coaching" the rest of the cast: I like to follow the instructor. I didn't like all the pullups, either. And the "commerciality" of Beachbody greatly irritates me! I missed Cathe terribly. I tried to go back to the P90X workouts, but I just couldn't stand to do them anymore. I ended up selling the package. It is effective, but just not for me.

If you've viewed clips of P90X and think you might not like it, I'd trust your instincts. STS is far superior in every way. I'm doing STS for the second time and looking forward to every workout--much more fun than gritting your teeth and "making it through" a rotation.
