I hate to use this forum for dress advice, but I'm desperate. Where should I be shopping for stepmom-of-the-groom dresses? I went on the knot and Modern Bride and every dress I chose sent me to one store in NYC. That store said they don't really cater to gowns for moms. But if I just go to a dept. store, they're only going to have spring dresses and the wedding is late September. Today I'll check out some dept. stores, but I wouldn't be surprised if the stores are just filled with prom dresses. My stepson asked me to wear a gown, even though it's a daytime wedding, so a nice sophisticated suit is out.

Can I just dye my wedding gown? I'm almost serious here. It's floor length, and very simple in design. But somehow that's too weird.

Dani and others: what did your moms wear and where did they buy their dresses?

Thanks guys!

Hey Nancy! I have been doing nothing but Wedding planning since Feb! Dillard's has some very nice dresses with jackets that are beaded and very "mother/step mother of bride/groom"

also, (i forget where you live exactly) here, any store that sells wedding gowns also sells dresses for the mothers as well. Every bridal shope from small to huge has them. Have you tried the bridal shops in your area?

Good luck!

Val-
the Chadwick's stuff is gorgeous, but isn't it all mail order? I feel like I want to go somewhere and try stuff on. Maybe I'm wrong. I'll check it out further.

Lovely stuff!

Nancy,

Your right, it's mail order. I normally pick a few things out and try them and whatever I don't like I will return it. If nothing else, it will give you an idea of what you're looking for!

nancy- you mean with all of those bridal shops in Brooklyn, there are no lovely mother of the groom dresses lol? My aunt wore a gorgeous dress to her daughter's wedding last year. I just emailed her for some suggestions- will post again when I hear from her.

WOW!! Jes, you were absolutely right. I found the greatest dress at a bridesmaids gown store. Alfred Sung is awesome!! They make several different style tops and skirts, and you can mix and match them and it doesn't look like 2 pieces, so it's like you're designing the perfect dress for your shape. Is that brilliant, or what? And they have a color palate so you can choose your color. What could be better?

I chose a top that actually makes me look like I'm not short-waisted!
:D :D

Hi Nancy!! I'm must checking the boards now. Sorry it took so long! :)

My mom got her dress from Von Maur. I don't know if they have any near you but it is a really nice department store in the "Special Occasions" section. She absolutely loves that place.

I'm so glad you found something!!!
