Daily facial moisturizer w/ SPF -- what do you use?

So, what do you use? Likes? Dislikes?

I think my face looks pretty shiny during the day, which bugs the heck out of me. Not sure if it's the moisturizer (olay).

Anything light and non-greasy, with SPF, that you think doesn't contribute to face-shine? Something under $20 preferable. (rolling my eyes)

Hi bite. I used to use a moisturizer with SPF, but my foundation has an SPF and I was surprised to learn that using the two together can actually cancel out the SPF effects! So now I just stick to a regular moisturizer without SPF, and use my sun-blocking foundation.

Ha! Calling me "Bite" was cute!

My name's Gisela, but Biteset came into existence one day when I was trying to type my name on a caffiene high (jitters!)

If your face is shiny, do you really need a moisturizer? Maybe just use the moisturizer at night? I use Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 45. I have oily skin and don't have any shine with this.

I use Clinique City Block SPF 40. It is not oily and offers great sun protection.

I am heavily opposed to suntans and tanning beds since I am very fair skinned.

And the skin cancer rate (esp. deadly melanoma) is becoming a serious problem for younger women -- like as early as their twenties.

Hi Nancy,

The two can cancel each other out?

I have heard that if you wear an SPF sunblock and then an SPF foundation, that the SPF won't increase to SPF 30; it will stay at SPF 15.

I use both; now I'm concerned I am not doing the right thing....

I use Aubrey Organics Blue Green Algae (SPF 15). I really like their products (I use their shampoos and conditioners as well).

They have 6 different moisturisers according to skin type (mine's no.4 for combination/oily).

It's not expensive and it's the best I've found for a long time.

I find that almost impossible to believe that the SPF of the moisturizer and foundation will cancel each other out. If one was a negative SPF, then yeah...that would be plausible.

Donna, I only heard it from Dr. Denese, nowhere else. So I guess it depends upon what you think of Dr. Denese. She says:

"The sun is the single worst enemy of your skin. Nearly everything that you do not like about your skin: enlarged pores, lines, loss of elasticity, age spots, red capillaries have ultimately something to do with the Sun. It is very important to find a day cream and sun screen built together in one. Because if you have a day cream and then a separate sun screen on top, the SPF effect of the day cream is diluted. So you may think that you have an SPF15 on, but you may have less than half that."

I use Mary Kay's Timewise moisturizer w/ SPF 15. I don't notice much face shine. It retails for $22, but I buy all MK stuff on eBay and usually pay around $17 with shipping included.

I use Oil of Olay regenerist. It has gotten so many great reviews. I saw it for about $17 in Walmart.

I like Aveda Oil -free Tourmaline lotion spf 15.It layers well over other serums and wears nicely under makeup.

I think the whole thing about 2 sunscreens canceling each other out has to do with the formulation. For example, creams and normal sunscreens have different consistencies. It isn't the SPF that is screwing it up, it is the lipids, oils, etc that the SPF is in that is screwing it up. If your moisturizer and sunscreen have similar consistencies, I don't see a problem.

BUT...sunscreen plus bug repellent does dilute the sunscreen effect.

I use Origins Have a Nice Day. SPF15.
And the other posted are correct - you may not gain the extra SPF, but you're not losing anything but putting on two layers. I actually think that's what Dr. Denese (who?) was trying, not so eloquently, to say, as well.

Not sure where you heard about SPFs cancelling each other out, but I'm pretty sure that's incorrect. SPFs aren't additive, so an SPF of 15 and another of 30 don't make 45, and a lower SPF can dilute a higher one, but if you put on sunscreen or sunblock you are getting some combination of sun protection. Never heard of the cancelling thing before :(

I've tried all different brands, but found only one that didn't make my face feel oily and greasy. The Arbonne RE facial lotion with spf8. I don't sell it and not into the business part of Arbonne, but I must admit that I really like their eye cream and facial lotion with the spf.
