This is the only dvd i don't have. I was looking at it and it looks alot like the gym styles in an older version.
Are they really alot different . I am not seeing a benefit in ordering these.
I love the gym styles , but i don't want tapes just like them , or that similar.
What do you folks that have them both think...

Anne,
I was on the fence about CTX for a long time-I ordered it in April and I cant get enough of it. It is high impact like Kathryn said in another thread so if you have problems with your knees I would not get it. She does alot of power 15s and power 7s. I absolutely love Step and Intervals and Powercircuit and Kickbox, but I dont like the weight work but the abs are surprisingly good-so I guess if you like high impact this ones for you-I love it!!

I really enjoy CTX. They're perfect for days when you don't have as much time to work out. The best part is after the 30 minutes of cardio you feel like you've had a workout. It's fun because if you're doing a cardio day you can mix two different cardio styles together. The CTX upper body gives a great upper body workout. I also enjoy the abdominal routines as they got my tummy flat after having kids.

I, too, am big fan of CTX...I like being able to keep cardio, weights and abs to under an hour on some days.:D The leaner legs is a great lower body workout. And I use the abs on days that I do another video without ab work included...Or just as a bonus.:) I like the power circuit section the best, I think, but I am also a big fan of the all step routine. It is a great routine to use on those days where you don't have an hour for cardio.

Good luck and happy shopping;)

I just reacquired CTX, and have used 3 of the workouts so far. It definitely needs some impact modification for me if I do the workouts in a logical series (back/chest/legs/shoulders/biceps/triceps). I personally don't think high impact step several days in a row, or in a week, is good, and 4 of the 6 workouts include high-impact step. I am modifying some of the high-impact step routines to a lower step and more low/moderate impact.

I REALLY like the weight work in this series. It's time-efficient and feels effective, and I can go pretty heavy on it. I also like the ab work.

There are some many workouts with CTX you're bound to like some. But, if you have all of Cathe's other workouts, I not convinced you need it. The workouts are shorter. There are 5 cardio routines, followed by a short strengthening segment that works one body part. The strengthening exercises you've seen before. There is also a workout that combines all the upper body exercises (upper body split) and one that combines all the lower body (leaner legs). I like these a lot - especially leaner legs which I find more challenging the GS. But I like GS better for upper body. There is an all ab workout that is pretty good too.

I suppose the cardio routines would be good to do 5 days in a row working one body part per day, except the cardio sections are not long enough for me to do 5 days in a row.

I wouldn't compare CTX to GS, but to the timesaver workout (except it's not a compilation).

A clarification: the upper body split is indeed a compilation of the upper body work from 5 of the workouts (as the 'all abs" workout is a compilation of all the ab segments). "Leaner Legs," however, is a workout on its own that doesn't canibalize the other workouts. (The "Circuit" workout also includes lower body weight work, in a cardio/weights circuit segment, but it's not recycled in Leaner Legs).

Does the DVD that has all the workouts also have premixes so you can increase the length of the cardio?

Neither DVD has all the workouts on. DVD 1 has Circuit (step, legs and back), interval (chest), all step (shoulders? or triceps) and 10-10-10 (triceps? or shoulders). DVD 2 has Leaner Legs, kickbox (biceps), the upper body compilation workout (no warm-up or cooldown, just all the upper body segments put together), and the ab compilation (all the ab/core segments put together).

There are no 'premixes' per se (this was "pre-premix"!), but each workout has various chapters (not as much as later workouts, though), so you could more quickly put together two cardio segments, for example.

Hi Anne,
I credit the CTX series for getting me back in shape after having my first child. It is, in my opinion, one of the best series Cathe has done. It was a "no-brainer" for me - I mean that in the sense that I didn't have to think about what to do - I knew I could get a great workout done in just under an hour and by the end of the week I would have covered all body parts as well.
It's the one series I will not part with! ;-)

I think it depends on you. I find that I reach for CTX more than anything else just because I am often short on time and want to use it as effectively as possible. I think the weight work is really effective and the cardio is interesting. It is high impact, but rather easily modified if you have experience with Cathe. I know some people don't like to do that, though.

Let us know what you decide!
