CTX question

If you can do Bootcamp and IMAX 2, CTX should not be a problem.......

Janice
PS. Will you still get some benefit out of CTX????!!!!.....sheesh...... that is an awesome series!!

I got CTX about 2 months ago. It is a great series, you can't go wrong. Leaner Legs is a real killer...:)...Carole

I'm not sure I agree with the others' ideas. The cardio in CTX is high impact, lots of intervals, jumps everywhere, stacks of power 7's and 15's. It sounds like for you, the best bits of the CTX series would actually be buying just the Leaner Legs tape and the CTX upper body split tape. I wouldn't advise you to get the whole thing, I think the cardio would frustrate you, but the weight training sections are worth the money and are two of the tapes I do the most.

Do you still do VHS? Because if you do, just buying those two tapes on VHS is the way to go for you.

Hi Kali, I have crappy knees too. And I use the CTX series. There are always ways to modify Cathe's workouts. Instead of doing those up-and-backs, I do two small knee hops and still end up where Cathe does. Those power 7's and 15's are a bit tricky. I do a hamstring curl up the step then a knee lift on the floor. This cuts the intensity and I have some catching up to do as my modification relies on an even numbered count, but my knees are happier. For those segments where you jump over and over the step, you can always do a step up then a step down. For the hi/lo segments, I do low impact moves on the floor. Sometimes I "travel" with Cathe, and sometimes I do the moves in place. There are explosive lunges in CTX Kickbox. I sub those with either jumping jacks or squats (I squat to one side, then to the other). In places where she introduces simpler variations, I use those. I find that CTX is a great way to add variety to my rotations. And yes, the workouts in the Intensity series are more intense, so if you do those, you probably won't have a problem with CTX. Have you viewed the clips? What do you think?

The CTX tapes, even when I modify, are by far the worst on my knees. None of Cathe's other tapes really bother me but these do. I mostly do the weight and ab work now from the series, which is great.

I too have been debating with myself about whether to get the CTX series.

I cycle to and from work everyday, which is about 1.5 hours off road, so wondered if I tagged on a CTX workout whether that would be sufficient (or too much!). Getting additional cardio PLUS weights is what I'm thinking. I'm also studying as well as working fulltime so any timesavings are useful.

Problem is I have 'issues' with my knees so the high impact stuff is tough on me. I can get through both IMAXs (modified on things like tuck jumps but it is still tough for me) and did (modified) Boot Camp yesterday (WOW!!! - can't manage those Terminator squat things - just stayed on the floor and did extra scissors rather than jumping up...what a coward eh!) although I feel it in my knees and lower back both at the time, straight after and the next day. (The lower back thing is all related to tight hamstrings apparently. Anyone had that or got any suggestions - I stretch like mad but to no avail. Anyway comments welcomed.) x(

Sorry, I digress.

SO - my question to the EC is...

...as I already have Timesaver from BB, would I still benefit from CTX? How do they compare? I have all IS, BB, PS and S&H plus older workouts on video such as Step Fit, BodyMax etc (but NOT PH, RS or PC.)

What do you think guys?

Cheers for now... and thanks for being such a supportive bunch!

Webgirl:

hi!

Listen, the botttom line is that the CTX is a fabulous series. I still prefer it to the IS series. But, do you neeed it? I think not.

You are doing sufficient cardio with your cycling, plus you say you do Bootcamp and the Imaxes. Enough already. You are right to focus more on the weights I think. And ince you already have the PS, Pyramids, S & H, Supersets and Push?pull and Legs & Glutes, you already have right there a whole range of tapes from endurance to super heavy, it's enough!

If you still use VHS, as I said to Kali, just get the Leaner Legs because it really is unique in Cathe's collection for training the ower body. But then again, could you survive without it? You betcha!!! Your cycling is doing wonders for your legs, so will the pyramids, Bootcamp, and PS legs. You don't really need anything else. And since high impact aggravates your knees, why make matters worse, why buy more cardio workouts you have to modify?

I guess I don't see the point when the world is full of diferent ways to exercise. Save your money for bike parts when the current one gets sick!

Good luck

Clare

I agree with the general trend of advice. Get Leaner Legs and the upper body split tape and skip the cardio.

Thank you so much for your advice Clare!

I have all the latest ones on DVD so I just need to get innovative on the premixes right? I still have the older ones on VHS as I just have a problem with re-buying workouts I already have, but hey, you are right again - they are there if I need them...

You are SOOOO on the money about exercising in different ways - I just didn't want to be missing out on anything if you know what I mean.

Thanks you again for your time, comments and kind wishes - much appreciated. Oh, and my bike thanks you too! It's now looking forward to some new gears for Spring!

Cheers

I love CTX so much that I bought the DVD's when I have the tapes already. I am going to be selling all my "tapes" soon and replacing them with DVD's, but I couldn't wait for that one. I don't like hi-impact either, and love them all. There's one section in 10-10-10 that has hi/low, but I now do the other 2 (step and kickbox) and then repeat kickbox usually or step (depending on my mood). I really like the weight work in the set also, and you can't beat leaner legs. That's my opinion.

I just don't get what everyone means about all the high impact. Every Cathe tape I do seems to have mounds and mounds of it. Those sixteen airborne jacks in BC are about the hardest thing on my knees there is....well, I guess that is IF you do them all.

And then again, to my knowlege, I don't have "crappy" knees....
