CTX only???

Hi I am new to this board. I have older Cathe cardio, but I want to try something newer. A friend of mine has CTX series, and she loves it. She and I are planning on joining WW on-line. This should help me with portion control and cleaner eating.

My question is: can I really lose weight doing CTX only? Is the 30 min cardio enough? I always thought you needed at least 45-60 min cardio to see results. Even though the cardio sections in CTX are intense, is it enough? I am ~5'6", size 12/14 and want to be a 6/8. Is there anyone who lost a significant amount of weight by doing only the CTX series?

If you can keep up with the cardio moves at the intensity performed, and use at least a 6 inch step doing it, you will definitely lose weight. I had been stuck at a plateau for 3 months and when I started CTX I lost 5 pounds very quickly and have kept it off. It was so intense cardio though I had to back off for a while because it just wore me out! I'll be starting it up agin after I finish the intensity series rotation, which I think is a lot lower intensity than CTX!!!!

Lirenc,

I think CTX is good for maintaining your current weight and strength, and the Intensity Series is better for weight loss and shaping.

I find the CTX cardios to be very intense (as Beth does), and I can stick with the CTX series better than the Intensity Series. I think the reason is that the CTX cardios are shorter, so I know they will be over in about 35-40 minutes rather than 60 minutes, and then I get to move on to weights. I am never bored with CTX.

The Intensity Series, however difficult to stick with, did give me better results than CTX. I lost about 2 pounds (they have since returned since switching to my current all CTX rotation). But, mostly the benefit I got from the Intensity Series was shaping, particularly in my lower body. I became smaller in the glutes and legs.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

Linda

P.S. I, like you, started as a size 12 when I discovered Cathe, and am now a 6/8. So, stick with it (no matter what series you choose, and your weight loss will come)!

Intensity of CTX cardio?

Hey everyone!
Is the intensity of the cardio in the CTX series as intense as say Imax or Imax 2 cardio? I don't own the CTX series, but I was thinking about making that my next purchase. I've seen a lot of great rotations that incorporate the CTX series. Thanks and have a TERRIFIC day!

Hi Lirenc,

I have both CTX & Intensity. I enjoy both series. I can tell you that 30 minutes of cardio is enough if you are doing AT LEAST 20 minutes in your target heart range (180-your age + or - 5). That said, CTX may not be enough for you.

If you do a search for "less cardio" you'll find a few threads where people have posted that they have had dramatic results with reducing their cardio & increasing their weight lifting. The results are coming because as you may know muscle burns more fat than aerobics alone. Muscle does weigh more so there is a response to your thread here & I'm sorry I don't remember the person that posted it. Anyway, she said she's only lost 2 pounds but has had great shaping results. The reason for the slight weight loss is just that--muscle weighs more than fat. What you need to use as a guideline isn't so much how much weight you lose but how your clothes fit.

So, I didn't answer your question about which series is better for weight loss but I hope I answered other questions you didn't even know you had. If that can make any sense.

Came back to add this link--read FitNut's response to a similar question.....

Keep in mind too that you can always pop in a segment from another CTX cardio routine after the one you've already done if you are feeling peppy enough and want to go a little longer!

For example: Add the Step&Intervals interval segment at the end of the AllStep cardio segment, or the step segment from 10-10-10 to the end of AllStep.

Or, do the hi/lo warm-up and hi/lo first cardio segment from Power Circuit, quickly pop in the hi/lo segment from 10-10-10 and do that, THEN go back to Power Circuit and perform the rest of the cardio segment.

This is where the beauty of DVD's really kicks in; I really like the chaptering in the CTX series (switched over from the CTX vids to the CTX DVD's late last year), and I find the mix/match options to be, as La Cathe would put it, limitless. You can of course do these mix/matches with vids; it just takes a bit more time to pop the cassettes in and out and to have them cued up for each workout.

CTX truly is a great value. I do think you'll see a lot of positive results with it!

I second what AJ says about the CTX series. You can make your workout short or long, depending on your mood for the day. Sometimes I take the Kickbox routine and put it with the kickbox in 10 10 10 and repeat to make an hour when I'm really up for a challenge.....oh my...The possibilities are endless and the results are priceless. :D

Wow!! Thanks for all the great information. You all seem very knowledgeable. I do think I will start with CTX, and for sure, I'll be ordering DVDs. It's great to know about the chapters and the variety. Maybe somedays I will go with longer cardio and less intensity, and other days, go for short cardio bursts with more intensity. If I see good results, then by the end of the summer I may be ready to try the Intensity Series.

I build muscle really, really easily. I have some old Jane Fonda and Buns of Steel tapes, I don't think they are very intense, so I can pick up 3lb weights and do the limited arm movements. My arms/legs are very tone, so now I just need to get rid of some of the fat covering the muscles. I never use weights w/ Cathe's aerobics. She moves so fast!!

Also, I don't want to get too caught up on the numbers on the scale, that's one main reason I prefer to look at what size I wear today, and what size I want to wear this time next year. I know muscle weighs more than fat, but still I'm no fool. I know I will have to lose some lbs in order to go down 3 or 4 dress sizes.

Thanks again for all the great advice!!

Hi Lirenc, I agree with Deborah. I notice that Im losing very slowly but let me tell you that my clothes is alot looser now then when I weighed less. I guess you can say im more solid. I would consider adding weights to your aerobics. I have the CTX Series and it is great, but I do like The IS also. Most of Cathe's aerobic is 40 to 60 mins except maybe the kickboxing and something else im not sure. So for the CTX Express I say go for it. Everyone of Cathe's excerise is great you will not go wrong. I just which that I found Cathe alot sooner because one of my problem is I get bored with excerise and you don't with Cathe if you own a few. Let me warned you once you buy you will not stop. I still can't. I think I almost own everything except the Terminator, cardio kick, and circut max which Im going to order the cardio kick dvd next. You will get great results if you keep at it. Please don't get discourage if the scale doesn't move. I would measured yourself because that is where you will see the results. Well good luck and let us know what you get.;-)
