Crosstrainers or Aerobic Shoes?

I'm still on my shoe quest. I've found some ryka aerobic shoes that I'm considering buying. Am I right that crosstrainers tend to offer more lateral support? I do cardio kicks and kickbox right now (each once a week and the other days lifting and cardio). How much do I need that lateral support?

TIA

Sue-

I have used Ryka for about 4 years, but last month when I needed some new shoes for my videos I got some New Balance Cross Trainers. I really like them. I think cross trainers are great for Cathe Videos.

Have a great day!!

I'm also for crosstrainers. Step aerobics is just one of the several things I do, fitness-wise. I'm not so particular about the brand. The important thing to me is that the shoes fit my feet well. I have narrow feet and high arches and it can be quite difficult to find the right shoes. I've been through many aerobics shoes and crosstrainers and frankly, I don't feel any difference between the kind of support these two can give. I do think aerobics shoes are lighter, and that's about it.

I'm chiming in on the topic... but for purely superficial reasons! :)
I go with cross-trainers because I really like the styles and designs that are out now... bright colors and stripes... I have purchased some real "kick-butt" shoes! ;-)
I find that aerobic shoes seem to be a little plain-looking for my taste -- kind of like walking shoes... ya know what I mean?
I agree with the other ladies' points about the stability aspect of xtrainers... I just thought I'd add my 2 cents (fashionwise!):p

I have the new Ryka Rhythm aerobic shoes and love them for step, hi/lo,kickbox, and weights. They are even better than the Cirrhus model. I tried on the ryka crosstrainer(Iseum) and it didn't seem quite as cushiony. I like the aerobic shoes because they are high top and provide more ankle stability, especially in lateral moves. The laces actually wrap around your ankle and then are connected to the primary laces to tighten them up.

Just another opinion: I found that cross-trainers didn't offer enough cushioning for my heels... I bought some Saucony running shoes and have had no heel pain since! I'm on my third pair (starting off with Omni and just getting Triumph yesterday). During Imax Extreme tonight I felt like the old PF Flyer commercial: Run further! Jump higher! (Was that PF Flyer or something else? Anyhow, I'm old!) I definitely test them out in the store doing some sumos and some ricochets and lunges and whatever else I can think of without creating TOO much of a commotion to make sure I get the lateral support I need.

Beth,

That's one that I'm considering. Unfortunately, it appears that there are no dealers that carry the shoe within driving distance so I get the privilege of paying s&h. LOL My only concern is the high-top issue. I'm leary as to how it will feel considering I've never worn one before. I wonder if they'll be uncomfortable. Thanks for chiming in--I appreciate info. from an owner.

Thanks all! Discovered today the serious lack of dealers within reasonable driving distance so I guess I'll be ordering from Ryka again.
