Crikes! Those KBs can be slippery!

SO, I need some tips for how to do the KB "slingshot" without putting the KB through the wall, which I nearly did yesterday afternoon. Who'd've thought 25 pounds could fly so fast? Hee! I bang my fingers especially when trying to catch the bell around the back. Ouch!

My 8kg bell is too light for that section of Providence.

Wow, you ladies are strong. Using the 8Kg, I could only do 3/4 of the exercises in Providence. With a 12Kg, I can only do the swings but not those overhead cleans.

Yea, you are strong. My heaviest kb is 10lbs but, because I always wound up so sore for so long after doing kb's, I've been hesitant to take things further. However, I've been using nothing but kb's as my full body work for about a week-and-a-half, thinking once my body gets used to the work and recovery time is reduced I could then reintroduce other full body workouts while using kb's intermittently, without issues. I love kb but I don't want to do it all the time and I can't afford to be laid-up for days from soreness, unable to do anything. I really should be hurting from yesterday's workout by now so maybe I can finally use kb workouts when I want now, without problems. Meanwhile, for the first time, I dropped my kb TWICE yesterday! I just couldn't hang onto the thing.

Chalk!! And slow the move down a bit to get the hang of it. At least that what I did. I agree the 8 kg bell is just too light for this move for me. My DH isn't happy that I have dropped the bell a time or two  I am just happy I didn't get my toes.

Anthony says in the intro "you will drop the bell" Just be safe!!;)

I have a dent in my wall from doing those things . I usually do most of my kettlebell workouts outside.

I wish I could work outside!! I try to stay as far away from the walls as I can, but a hole in the wall would ban me from doing kbs indoors

I just got a KB and the Providence workout for Christmas. I enjoyed the workout and my inner thighs are very sore. I noticed that my forearms hurt really bad from the bell hitting them on certain moves. Anyone else expericence this?

I put a tennis racket moisture absorbing overgrip on mine.

I have to make sure the dog is not around so I don't hurt him swinging!

I agree with Catherine. Chalk (like climbers or gymnasts use) really helps and I keep a towel nearby as well. I use a 12kg for that move as well and just make sure I hold on with one hand until the other hand takes over.

I was taking a private instruction class with Andrea DuCane and we were in a karate room with wall to wall mirrors. I was so afraid the bell would slip loose and go flying into the mirror:confused:

Could one use lifting gloves? Or is that not a good idea? I haven't purchased the KB yet, and know nothing about them!

This will get better as you perfect your form. You want to make sure you have complete control of the bell and don't let it flip/bounce around. I was hitting my forearms when first l started learning cleans & snatches but it got much better as my form improved. You could get some wrist bands (like sweatbands) to use for awhile or cut off the top of a sock and use that to cushion your forearm. HTH:)

No...you do not want to use lifting gloves. The bell should be able to rotate freely in your hand.

Some people do wear gloves. But others say strictly to not wear gloves. IMO it would interfere with your grip. But as always, do what works best for you ;)

A good reference site is artofstrength.com. They have lots of videos and information on kbs. Good luck!!

Try lifting chalk (magnesium carbonate).

You can either chalk up the handle of the bell (as Anthony D. does), or chalk up your hands, or both.
