Crest Whitening Strips - OUCH!

I couldn't take the strips either. AFter the first go-round, I said "Not again!". I just don't think that it is worth the pain. I started using the Rembrandt toothpaste, and have seen a difference. It doesn't bother my teeth (no pain), and I use it once a day - I use the Colgate Total with whitening for other brushings. I drink tea from time to time, so the whitening stuff is important!!

Marla and Michelle,

You just saved us $500!!!! DH was just going to get his done this coming Monday. No one told us of the side effects, and I didn't ask because I assumed there weren't any. When I got on this thread and read what I did, I then called to get more information. The lady was very upfront with me as she had hers done too. I am cancelling his appt today and just going to buy the crest white strips for him to try. They have the kind that last for up to 18 months which is what I use.

You all are the best! Thanks for starting this wonderful thread Donna!

I use these about once a year and yes, they do make my teeth very sensitive. I apply them every other day. Just as effective for me. I use the regular ones, too cheap for the premium.

In fact, I had my teeth cleaned this morning and the hygienist asked me if I had been whitening because they looked so white. Yay.

My teeth are always sensitive anyway, and this did make it worse. But once I switched to using Sensodyne toothpaste (all the time, not just while whitening) they aren't painful anymore. Maybe that would help? This is one of the few "vanity" things I'm willing to suffer for lol.

Well, all in all, it was worth it. The pain went away a day after I stopped the treatment and my husband said something to me about them looking whiter today. I'll use them again next year. And make sure I get the Sensodyne.

Donna...you're not alone. I was in agony at the end of week one with them. Now, we are used to pain...DOMS...but boy oh boy, I wasn't used to that kind of pain..haha They work great though..haha

I haven't tried any whitening system, because I have always been scared of damaging or debilitating my teeth. I don't know why everyone is so obssessed with white teeth, anyway. I don't think teeth were intended to be pure white. Besides, I don't think anything topical, unless it is penetrating (like in proffesional treatments)is going to remove yellowness, where yellowness is something that comes from WITHIN the teeth. For that reason, I fear that the outer "layers" of the teeth will be debilitated before the solution reaches the inside of the teeth.

When I go to the dentist for a cleaning, I come out with transparent teeth that are yellowish inside. For some reason they look more yellow (inside) after a professional cleaning.

I wouldn't risk the health of my teeth just to sucumb to the Pure-white teeth obssession. I maintain proper higiene and I think that should be enough. Also, certain foods tend to stain, like dark souces, or rub your teeth from the outer layer, like sodas. These are foods that are not clean, anyway. So I avoid them.
