Creative peeps: themed gift basket ideas?

RunninTeach

Cathlete
I have volunteered to put together a themed gift basket to be auctioned at an upcoming beef & beer benefit but am stuck for ideas beyond the usual movie, grill, or pampering basket. Can't. Think. http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee296/runninteach/grouch/th_duh.gif Any ideas?

TIA for any suggestions!

At the silent auctiom we do for a local charity, you see:

Pet baskets - gift cards and treats for fido and fluffy

Wine baskets - a bottle or two of a good red or white and something to go with it. Like a good chocolate for the red (heart healthy!) or picnic stuff with the white.

Baby baskets - filled with stuff that would be nice for a new mom (name me one person who doesn't know someone who's preggers?).

Along that line - kids baskets - filled with games and toys to entertain kids.

Evening out baskets - gift certificate to a restaurant for two, and some wine and cheese or something for before.

Jewelry baskets - great especially if you know a budding artist who is looking to sell his or jewelry (very common here in the Bay Area).

If I think of more, I'll post them.

For Christmas one year I did a themed basket full of goodies for each of DH's partners. For a special touch I bought 4 cheap wine glasses and painted the "theme" on them. For instance, one of the partners is an herbalist, so his glasses had a parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme theme, I just painted the herbs onto the glasses with dishwasher safe paint and they turned out so cute.
Then I went to Micheal's and bought plastic/fake "herbal plants" and hot glued them onto the basket(the basket I chose was a twig like one)--all over to create a lush look, then lined it with a green dishtowel, added four greenish/striped napkins, some herbal crackers, and other "herb" goodies, rosemary crackers, lavender cookies, a bottle of wine,etc...then stuck some more of the fake "herbal greenery" around the items to make it look really full and pretty, tied a large cotton ribbon in an herbal print on top and that was it. It looked really expensive, and was well received.:)

I did the other one in a Mexican food theme. Just put together something you would love to receive and chances are someone else will feel the same way!

I put together a basket as a grab bag gift last Christmas. It contained chocolates, nuts and coffees. I was drooling as I was putting it together. We also added a pair of cozy red mittens to the top after we wrapped it up. I guess this is all to wintery themed for this time of year but barring the mittens I for one would certainly appreciate the contents ANY time of year!:9

How about a family fun basket. That could contain games, snacks, DVD's etc.

The most popular might be a romantic night for 2 basket with candles, wine, a teddy, maybe a book like Mars and Venus in bed.

If this is a beef & beer benefit, presuming that men will be a part of the auction, maybe do a "Man Cave" basket filled with goodies that appeal to men? A drill bit, gift certificates to automotive or hardware places, a new tee-shirt? (Sorry if I'm stereotyping here; I've gotten the giggles recently on the Man Cave coverage on CNN.)

Hey Cathy!

We had a fundraiser at our school recently and one of the gift baskets we raffled off had a "Birthday Party" theme. It had a voucher for a free skate party for 8 at our local rink, a free 1/2 sheet cake from my aunt's bakery, invites/thank you cards, candles, etc. It was really cute and original.

At a bridal Shower today one of the prizes was a gardening basket and it was wonderful. Maybe some seeds, tools, gloves, weed killer, put in in a planter box.

How about a Picnic Basket filled with stuff for a picnic. I think I may just go out a put myself together one we love to go to the parks and now I can use picnic supplies. See you later and good luck.

How about a basket for gardeners?

Several packets of seeds, some gloves, little trowel, a book on perennials for the zone of the US in which you live, some miracle grow and maybe a little potted African violet, etc.

Needn't be too expensive either.

How about a cartoon character theme basket that parent would bid for for their kids? Take the new Iron man for instance, or Spiderman, with a DVD, an action figure, a T shirt, etc.

How about a booklover's basket? Two or three new paperbacks, some great bookmarks, a voucher for local bookstore, small reading light, plates for labelling one's own books, etc

One more...an italian one with all the fixin's for spaghetti (noodles, sauce, etc.), but the "basket" is a colander/strainer. Don't forget to include a slotted spoon!
