creating your own full body routine

Ok, i'm not saying that cathe's full weight routines are easy. they are not! they are more geared for muscle endurance (lighter weight/more reps)and i like to lift heavy. my question is what if you want to do a full body routine but make it heavy. could you create your own with lets say GS, PS, or S&H? so lets take GS for instance. I want to do 2 exercises per muscle group for the upper body for 3 sets. so for each of the videos i will do only that. for chest i will do bench press and chest fly for all the sets. for triceps i will do tricep extensions and kick backs. for back i will choose bent over rows and one arm rows. biceps-barbell curl and hammer curl. shoulders over head press and lateral raise. then i would move on to legs and do 3 sets of heavy squats, 3 sets of lunges, inner/outer thigh move for 3 sets, calfs, deadlifts, and step ups. i would finish with abs. whould this work? do any of you lift heavy during her full body workouts but slow it down? just trying to do something different. i'm assuming that this would all take about an hour.

I've created a mish mosh of the GS to make a full body routine. I choose 3 exercises for each body part. Then I usually add on abs from whatever floats my boat. The full body routine itself takes maybe an hour an ten.

Absolutely you can create a full body with different workouts. That is the beauty of Cathe's stuff.

I like to lift heavy as well. I don't really do her full body routines that much but I am using GS all month this month (Apr '05 rotation) and I've been doing mix-n-match which helps me go heavier and I also don't do as many reps, I usually just go 8-10 reps. For some, she does 8 reps like the barbell curls but other exercises she does 12 reps. I also might eliminate a set here and there where she does 3 sets. Also, instead of doing the 3rd set of underhand rows, I've been doing pullups/chinups instead. If you do all the timesaver rotations on GS, you should be able to make a nice full body routine between 60-90 minutes.

kariev,

I haven't created a full body routine using GS series, but you can create a heavy weight workout using the Pyramids, e.g. you can do the heaviest set and repeat it 3 times then move on to the next set of exercise and do the same. I think this could work and the transition would probably be smoother, probably less time pausing between sets as well. You can do the workout as upper/lower body split or total body and eliminate one set or two set depending on your time constraint.

I do lift heavy, but I don't do it while watching a Cathe DVD. I have been going to the gym and like you described, doing two sets of exercises for each muscle group. I just do it on my own and listen to music. You should give it a try. The only thing is you don't have Cedie counting for you to tell you when to stop :).
