Ok, I'm really kind of stressed out about how to do my weights today. DH has to go back to the doc (ongoing sinus issues) so he probably won't make it to the gym. I was going to have him spot me (do the chest last rather than start with it) before spin. I just don't know what to do now. I don't feel secure enough in using the barbell to not have a spotter. Since I don't have one at home, all I've been using for chest (everything) are my dumbbells. I need to go to about 36 lbs on the dumbbells today or use the barbell. There is no way I can safely hoist the DBs into place. The barbell feels so strange b/c I'm not used to it and don't feel super comfortable with it. So am I just not ready for this rotation??? Really kind of down about it.
Is there anyone else at your gym that could help spot you? Have you ever done barbell press before? If not, just go do them but do them with light weight until you get use to the movement. Nothing to get down about, there is always some way to do an effective workout. Instead of doing 5 reps, do 8 or 10 with a light barbell weight.
The gym owner would likely spot me if he wasn't busy. Just more comfortable with DH standing over me like that LOL! I have only done the barbell press with lighter weight (very light looking back).
Thanks for the suggestion of just adding on the extra reps. I may end up doing that. That is what I did with the preacher curls when I realized I was going too light. You know how it is when you get it in your head that this is what the rotation says to do, this is what I must do then.
I know I shouldn't stress about it. I just want it to be effective, and I want to get out of my comfort levels of sticking to the DVDs.
