Crap. He's doing it to me again.

Laura,

You're going to get upset with me again but you keep letting him do it so he is going to continue. You are partially to blame for his behavior.

I agree with Shelley and with Candi. I also think that at the end of the day when he picks her up you should tell him that will be $200 please.

I know what you mean, Laura. I have a boss that always lays stupid things on me that are not my job at all and I want to scream at him, tell him it isn't my job description, etc., but after a few years, I have come to the conclusion that it mostly takes a few minutes out of my day, doesn't hurt anyone and it keeps the peace. It's hard to find that balance on these kind of issues when someone signs your paycheck, no matter how wrong they are for expecting certain things!

Maximus,

I also work for a municpal government agency. I am the executive assistant to the #2 guy here and he is a mulit-millionaire just doing this job to "give back" (he gets paid $1 dollar a year). So he is used to having everything done for him.

He was giving me a lot of personal work to do (paying bills, health care stuff, running errands for his wife, etc). I did it because I get paid ridiculously well for what I do and it didn't really bother me. Well, someone else here doesn't like him and noticed that I was doing something for the boss that wasn't work-related. He complained to Human Resources and the boss was told to stop giving me personal work (there goes my Xmas bonus!).

Their reason was that we are paid by public funds and that personal work is a misuse of these funds. I think that babysitting would fall under that category. I bet if you sent an anonymous note to HR (looking like it was not from you) complaining, and mention the words "misuse of public funds", something might be done about it. Government agencies have to be really careful about this stuff. It all depends on if your HR people are intimidated by the boss I guess.

Sometimes people get stuck and have to bring their kids to work. Give her a little job, she would probally like it and might actually be a help?
