Coxsackie

wonderwoman

Cathlete
My 23 month old started with a mild fever saturday night. Monday took her to the doctor's she said my baby has the coxsackie virus. She has been miserable since. We all have not slept in 3 days. My poor baby girl is in so much pain. She has lived on Advil and liquids for 3 days. She is picking here and there but really eating nothing. She had turkey dog last night with a fruit/veggie pouch. I was so relieved when she ate that! Bedtime seems to be the worst. Maybe bacause she is lying down. She is also very congested but no runny nose during the day? She seems okay during the day resembles herself somewhat. Please any suggestions to make her feel better??? I read some benedryl mixed with pepto helps with the sores as far as pain is concern. Not to drink of course but to swish with it. She can't swish but maybe freeze them and let her suck on them like ice pops or dab them on the blisters.

Desparate mom :(

You can give her an epsom salt bath. Just make sure that the crystals are really dissolved and don't let her drink it. There is a lotion that I used on premies after a bath that says calming on it. I think there is lavender in it. That also helps. Basically a nice gentle massage.

Btw, its normal for people to feel better during the day and worse at night. Our circadian rhythm does effect which hormones are released at what times including our own cortisol (normal/natural) production.

When I was little my mom would make a very nice warm lemonade with just sugar and lemon and water. Sipping that helped because it was warm, sweet, and chock full of vitamin c.

I hope that your little one feels much better soon.

It just has to run its course. Both my kids had it when they were little, and I know it's miserable! Benadryl spray works well to keep the itching at bay as well as taking it orally. Make sure you wash all toys and bedding and scrub the whole house since this virus is very contagious.

She seems to be doing better. She hasn't had fever in almost 48 hours but she still has the blister's in her mouth. Her appetite is still not to well but at least she is still drinking. Thank you asking. It sure has been a long week that's for sure! Thanks again!
