Dark recesses of my mind hold information like that. Sometime as a kid I read a book or two written in the late 19th/early 20th century when that was a more popular name. An aster is a (cutie little purple) flower which makes Aster a female; I have, however, no idea if this particular Aster is cute, little, or purple.
