Core work has enabled me to do full pushups!

I've been doing the core work from PUB regularly lately (re pikes, I went from not being able to balance on the ball to being able to do every other pike. My aim is to do all of them). I've never been able to do pushups on my toes before. Anyway, I was viewing P90X chest and back at the weekend, and I decided to see if I was any better at pushups on my toes - I did 10 with relative ease, then stopped because I started to feel my back sinking (ie started losing my form). I am so pleased. I would recommend core work (planks, etc) for anyone who struggles with pushups.

Shaz :)

My core is pretty strong and I have only done 16 pushups as my back usually starts to sink too. I don't know why pushups are so hard for me as I can do several pull ups, plank work, pikes on the ball, etc. Actually planks are my favorite thing to do.
We just need to keep practicing...something I haven't done with pushups, maybe need to start?

Shaz,

I believe planks also helped me with push ups. Like Charlotte says, the more we do, the better we get at it.

I used to avoid push ups but not any more.

YES! I have found that push ups are nearly as much about my core strength as they are about my upper body strength! So true. I have found also that the day after muscle soreness from the push ups in GS is also in my lats! What is up with that? I have heard of muscle confusion, but this is ridiculous! :)

Something tells me we'll soon be seeing a post from Charlotte with a title something like this:

500 Full Pushups!! (I did it, so can you!)

Well, I dunno what's doing it for me, but I did the GS Chest and Tris push ups last week (all 72 of them) and only had to do about 10 on my knees, the rest were on my toes. I was amazed.

Don't you just love getting stronger?:)

I wish I could do pull ups. That is the hardest thing for me. I can do about 20 push ups but not a single pull up. Any advice on help doing pullups. I dont really have a place to practice but sometimes I will sneak over to the playground at night when no one is there and try to do pull ups on the monkey bars. I would be thrilled to be able to do at least one.

Thanks for any tips or advice,
~Angel

~Maybe I'll start a pull up thread for advice later on in the week
