I actually just saw Cathe on television for the first time this morning and am very motivated to get started. What is a rotation?
I want to lose weight and don't know how many calories I should be taking in each day. I am 5'6 and like to be 128 but am now 140 and not happy. I have always worked out but have not been very consistant.
I binge eat and then am real good for a few days. I wish I had a buddy to help motivate me. What tape(s) should I start with or should I just work out with Cathe in the morning? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

all this would depend on what your goals are. as far as how many calories you should take in i won't really answer that b/c its different for everyone. its something i would suggest taking up with an expert. but of course exercise and clean eating are the only way to go IMO. but a good way to find your downfalls is to write down what you eat, when you eat, and how you feel when you do. that why you can find if you emotionally eat on your binges and how to find another outlet to prevent this. i found i was an emotional eater, and was quite surprised how many calories and fat i took in from just that.

i am not sure of your fitness level but if you are beginner/intermediate cathe has some great ones to start with. in fact target sells the whole package with step, ball, and weights for $60 or you can buy dvds on the site and get the advantage of Premixes(mixing up the order of orignial workout/s to make fresh workouts).they make it sooooo worth the money.

if you are intermediate and somewhat advanced you could probably do any of cathes workouts with modifications(like take out some of the jumps and just keep it low impact).

and a rotation(if you scroll down on the main topics page there is a whole section for it) could be a monthly plan of what exercises you want to do. cathe does them for her own videos but you can mix it up anyway you want depending on your goals. its good to mix up the rotations and goals often b/c the body can adapt to the same routine if done over time. its a great way to wake up the muscles and shake things up. keeps you on tract when you challenge yourself with new things as well.

there are few others(i.e. expierenced catheites and personal trainers) that i am sure would love to add to this.or correct me on anything.

The general rule of thumb is your current body weight times 10 to lose and times 15 to maintain. So, if you're 140 and want to lose weight in a healthy manner, keep the calorie consumption around 1400 calories. You can also check out Fitday.com, and if you keep track of everything you eat and all of your exercise, then know that it takes a deficit of 3500 calories to lose a pound. To lose 2 pounds a week, you need to eat 1000 calories a day less than you burn. You don't want to lose more than 2 pounds a week. (Well, okay, you might WANT to, but that's a healthy goal).

Know that you should never go below 1200 calories. And that all of this is simply approximation. It's a start, but you'll need to experiment to find what works best for you.

Thank you so much for answering. You have alot of great tips. I am still confused though about the 1000 cal. less than you burn a day because for instance I walk 5 miles a day and burn 500 cal. so that's pretty much my routine for now. how do you eat 1000 less calories a day when you're not excercising alot?

RE: confused about how many calories i need per day to ...

You burn tons of calories through out the day even when you are not exercising. There are lots of calculators on the web to help you estimate how many you calories you burn a day. Just search the web to find one. I am around your height and weigh a bit less, and I burn about 2,000 a day just doing nothing (I have to sit at my desk all day at my job), plus about 500 extra calories a day in exercise. How many calories you burn a day depends on age, height, weight and the types of activities you do during the day (sedetary job, household chores etc.) So therefore, to lose 2 pounds a week, I would have to eat 1,500 a day (1,000 less). I can't go that low because I get too hungry, so I try and stay below 2,000, which will at least give me a 500 calories deficit a day. To maintain, I would eat a bit over 2,000 a day.

Have you ever thought about Weight Watchers? It's an excellent program. I've been doing it for about 3 years and I've lost 57 lbs. It has really taught me about eating healthy and I've totally changed my eating habits because of it. It can be difficult to lose weight on your own without any guidelines. There are even people who go there to lose only 5 lbs. so you don't need to be way overweight. Anyway something to think about. If you have any questions about it I'd be happy to help you out.
