The color from Robert Craig comes as a powder in a little tiny bottle. If you mix all of it with water, then yes, you have to use it or lose it.
But they give you instructions for using only part of the color, or for mixing and matching their color powders before adding the water.
I'm very happy with this product. They give you a little vial of shampoo with the color powder, mixing bottle, and applicator brush, and I did like that shampoo. The conditioner I feel is so-so. I'm trying the soft water stuff next time and see how that works.
I forgot to mention they have a questionnaire you can fill out that will give you color suggestions, too.
