College move in day-long

Yesterday, we moved our oldest daughter into her dorm! :(

I held it together all day until I had the worst move in day experience ever!

Campus parking is very restricted unless you pay $280 per semester for a garage spot. As we have 5 teen-agers, the much cheaper lot permit was our only option.
I finally found a spot in an approved lot, near her dorm (so she doesn't have to walk across campus alone at night). I sent my daughter and husband to get her car while I stood in the space. While waiting, a man pulled up and shook his head at me and began driving at me and did not stop until he actually HIT me with his truck!. :confused:I was petrified because even after hitting me he kept driving and very nearly ran me over until I finally dove out of the way. He then had the nerve to get out , yell at me, and tell me it was *1st come, 1st serve, not 1st stand!* I was shaking and speechless while he just walked away. Of course, 2 minutes later security shows up, but as I was physically uninjured there was nothing they could do. By then I was no longer speechless and wished I could have 2 minutes alone with the jerk!
Argh! I can't believe how selfish and vicious people can be!

So, it got me to thinking, anyone else have a move in day horror story?
I want to put it out of my mind as the rest of the day went so well, so come on, share your nightmare, so I don't feel so alone! ;)

Nothing they could do? That's called "assault and battery." They should have called the police and had him criminally charged.

I hate that people get away with acting completely inappropriate.

I don't have any horror story to share, sorry! But geesh, I certainly hope no one can top yours. That's when I seriously think, who raises these people?

I can't believe he HIT you! Are you able to tell this story with a straight face? I'm sorry, I know it's horrifying, but it's so ridiculous!

The sad thing is he probably went on to tell his family later about the atrocious woman standing in his spot. And how he should have called security on you.

Oh my gosh - is this what I have to look forward to??? I'm taking my one and only son up to college this coming Friday! I hope I don't come back with any stories like yours! Eek!

That's crazy!
We moved our son into his dorm at a major university. Parking is a problem year round. They allow cars to park in front of the building- on the sidewalk- for loading and unloading purposes. All they ask is that we turn on our hazard lights and move the car when we were finished. It went rather smoothly.
Sorry your experience was so horrible:(

Ok, so NOTHING compares to being run over by a jerk like that. I am so glad that you are ok!! But now I live in an area where EVERYBODY is a complete and utter you-know-what, so this doesn't surprise me at all. Where is the college? The people sound familiar :p.

So a year ago, my BF and I moved so I could go to school. I had a very emotional week saying goodbye to my family, and I was already 150% of my max stress level. We spent the entire day before doing the heavy moving/packing, stayed up almost all night to finish, and then got up at 4:30 in the morning to start our drive. In the gigantic moving truck, it took nearly 18 hours.

We had gone through an agency already to secure a place to live. I'd been working with these people for weeks, talking to the landlord of our finally chosen place, thinking that everything was all set. So we get there around midnight, so relieved to be able to sleep... until we get inside. The place was in shambles! It was literally so filthy I couldn't use the restrooms (after using gas station restrooms all day long!!!), we found out they had lied to us about just about everything; first of all, we didn't have the "garage" that was promised - a huge reason we got the place, we NEED a garage - it was a PARKING SPACE. That's just the beginning in a long list of things that were just utterly disasterous. I stayed up all night long crying.

So the next morning, the fight with the agency and the landlord begins. We went to lawyers, spent weeks on the phone trying to get this taken care of. Of course, they wanted to keep all of our money, even though they completely lied about everything. In the meantime, we were homeless for 3 1/2 weeks. We had two little dogs, the only hotel we could afford that would take them was in the ghetto in another city nearby. We had to stay in the area to look for another place to live and look for jobs. We had these dogs in severe heat (no air conditioning in the car) and we couldn't go inside of any business - couldn't even go to a restaurant or bookstore. Luckily we could go to pet stores :p.

So that's the condensed version of my moving "day". It was more of a moving month, though :)
I hope you feel better and your daughter is happy where is she is! It's an exciting time.

Edited to Add: A couple of weeks before the move, I was rear-ended by a truck and my car (not even a year old) was totalled. I had a minor neck injury, but it took care of the parking problem!! :D

Nadja, lol! That's exactly what I thought!

Terri ~ other than the deviant driver everyone else was friendly and helpful! Good luck on Friday!

Fidget Queen ~ you win! *Move in month * sounds horrendous! I hope life is going much better now!
